Job Summary

DESCRIPTION

Amazon Ads is looking for a Frontend Engineer to join the Reporting and Annotations team in either London or Edinburgh, building interactive reporting products that make our customer’s advertising campaign performance clear and empower actionable conversations with their account team. Our strong record of delivery has led our team to grow as we expand into new product areas, and we’re looking to enhance our team with developers skilled in both front end and/or full stack development to complement our existing team. We use React/Typescript but adaptability and learning is more important than knowledge of any specific stack. On the backend we use Kotlin and Elasticsearch on (of course) AWS.

This role offers the authority and responsibility to own not only the technical design, implementation and operational support of the features you work on, but also a key part of the customer’s advertising success through their use of our products. You will be involved in every aspect of the process from idea generation to delivery and support, meeting our high standards of performance, accuracy and reliability while operating at massive scale, 24×7. While you relish technically challenging work, you also understand that the biggest impact is from intuitive products that are delivered through iteration, collaboration and teamwork. You will both learn and teach as your work within an outstanding team of world-class engineers from over a dozen countries.

Key job responsibilities

  • Deliver; design, build, test, and operationally support front-end product features, with some involvement in the backend stack.
  • Customer obsession; develop an understanding of our advertising customers, from marketing managers to marketing directors and brand owners. Advocate what we should prioritise to help deliver value.
  • Collaborate; work with specialists from a range of disciplines including UX designers, product managers, programme managers, and engineers from a range of partner teams.
  • Iterate; find better ways to deliver, improve our testing practices, revise our architecture as needs change or better ways are found.

About The Team

We are part of the Cross-Product Performance (CP2) engineering team. We make externally facing reporting products used by advertisers and advertising agencies to understand the performance of their campaigns and brands. We operate at a global scale, supporting some of the world’s largest brands through our geographically distributed team with peer engineering teams in the US and Canada. CP2 engineering teams also make Recommendation products using large scale distributed data processing in Scala and Pitch Builder which tracks client upsells.

Basic Qualifications

  • Professional non-internship experience with front end, web or mobile software development using JavaScript, HTML and CSS
  • Computer Science Honours degree (2:1 or better) or another technical degree or postgraduate study. In lieu of degree, relevant skills and equivalent experience.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of data structures, algorithms, and strong problem solving skills.
  • Proficiency with one or more modern JavaScript front-end frameworks such as React, Angular, VueJS or Ember.
  • Proficiency in at least one modern programming language such as JavaScript, Kotlin, Java, C#, Ruby, Python, or PHP
  • Strong written and verbal English communication skills.

Preferred Qualifications

  • Understand view layout and rendering technologies (e.g., responsiveness, progressive enhancement, browser/device support). Know when it is appropriate to make graceful fallbacks.
  • Understand the importance of testing front-end components and has experience with creating unit and integration tests related to the front-end components they develop.
  • Experience using Amazon Web Services (AWS) desirable.
  • Able to demonstrate knowledge of front-end system design, interaction with backend APIs, and performance/security considerations.
  • Able to solve difficult software and UX problems with some ambiguity. Pushes for information to avoid solving the wrong problem and mitigate UI risks early in the process to avoid feature delays. Can decompose a problem into clear software and UX design actions.

Personal Qualities

  • Results oriented and analytical, with a strong customer and business focus.
  • Ability to communicate and discuss technical topics with both technical and business audiences.
  • Innovative, self-directed and able to deal well with ambiguous problems.
  • Strong sense of ownership, with a passion for software and continuous learning.
