Central Square is a building that will enable us to realise benefits for Welsh and UK audiences, meeting the needs of the BBC and its partners in Wales, and complementing the long-term production, property and productivity strategies across the UK.

This role is part of the Technology team which exists to provide excellent customer support and services to those based in Wales. As the subject matter expert for the Media Control Team (MCT) you will provide leadership on all aspects of the activities carried out by the team, which is made up on 5 operation technicians, supported by a senior operations engineer. Part of your remit will be to ensure an appropriate level of service, quality of output, stakeholder engagement and problem management is provided to every team that uses our services.

Role Responsibility

The MCT in BBC Wales provides services to every team that uses our facilities in Central Square, it also provides services to S4C.

This role will provide leadership to the MCT, working with teams that use our services to make sure we can meet their demands. It will be the expert of the media management system, EVS and other live playout facilities.

The Successful Candidate Would Need To Have

  • Expert knowledge of post-production workflows.
  • Experience of operating editing and live broadcast systems such as AVID and EVS.
  • Excellent knowledge and awareness of a wide range of media formats and standards, with an emphasis on video acquisition and use.
  • Detailed knowledge of media management systems in a broadcast environment.
  • A sound knowledge and appreciation of S4C and BBC requirements, for Wales and network services.
  • Demonstrable leadership experience in a live broadcast environment

The successful candidate will have experience of the media industry from a technical and or operational perspective. They will have a desire to provide excellent customer service, be confident, articulate, able to explain complex issues to non-technical staff; as well as an ability to identify innovative solutions often under stressful circumstances.

You will be able to build trust and strong relationships and be able to cope well under pressure. Excellent organisational skills are essential as is the desire to provide the highest quality of service from yourself and your team.
