This is an exciting opportunity to join the BBC Sport team and help create a brand-new series for BBC Scotland.

Icons of the Game is a factual entertainment series profiling the great and the good of Scottish football. It will tell the stories of players whose accomplishments and antics on and off the pitch have secured them not only a place in the history books, but also in the hearts and minds of the fans and the audience. It will use interviews and archive to tell their stories in an engaging and entertaining way.

Reporting to the Series Producer, the Researchers will be responsible for providing the Producer Directors and Assistant Producer with detailed and factually accurate research and supporting them throughout the production process.

Role Responsibility

  • and fact-checked biographies and profiles of contributors for the Producer Directors.
  • Assist the Producer Directors and Assistant Producer with compiling questions for interviews
  • Book interviewees and help arrange travel where needed, and to liaise with or brief contributors in advance of filming
  • Attend shoots where needed, to meet & greet guests and help during the filming day
  • Research and log archive match footage and other archive material (such as video, audio, stills, newspaper archives), and work with the Archive AP to source material
  • Work with the AP to log interviews for PD
  • Familiarity with BBC systems (Digital Archive, Archive Search, Digital Library – and non-BBC systems such as National Library of Scotland) would be an advantage
  • Research and source filming locations and work with the Production Management team to book locations
  • Fact-checking of questions and scripts for PD, plus fact checking during the edit
  • Assisting AP during edit to source additional content for the edit

Are you the right candidate?

Our ideal candidate will have a strong background of providing accurate and detailed research on contributors, have a good knowledge of Scottish football (past and present), and be comfortable liaising and working with a range of contributors.

They will have a strong interest in longer form factual entertainment/documentary programming and storytelling, and experience of working with/sourcing archive to help tell the stories in the series. They will also be able to source and secure locations for the filming.

A positive attitude, initiative and the ability to work under pressure to meet deadlines are essentials.

Contract: Fixed Term Full Time

Location: Glasgow

You are eligible to apply for an internal role if you are either on a BBC Continuing (Permanent) contract, a BBC Fixed Term contract, a casual contract or freelance contract and you have worked continuously for 6 months.

Only internal staff are eligible to apply for the role on an attachment basis. You need to be on a continuing (permanent) or fixed-term contract.
