Job Introduction

The Audio Team in Wales is part of Operations and provides operational staff and facilities for radio programme makers in BBC Wales, the wider BBC and for external clients.

Working to the Audio Lead, Senior Audio Supervisors are responsible for planning and operating equipment on often complex live and recorded radio programmes, including regular outside broadcasts of classical concerts. This content may sometimes be used for TV programmes too. You will specialize in music and events, generally for Network Audio, and most often in music of a classical nature. You may be required to work as a Senior Audio Supervisor in other areas of BBC Wales in the future depending on the demands placed upon the department and/or changes in operational design. You may also be required to work on general programmes in studios and on outside broadcasts when available.

You will work an irregular shift pattern dependent on programme requirements at any time of day or night, including weekends and Bank Holidays.

Role Responsibility

As the Senior Audio Supervisor, you will work closely with the BBC Audio department and other areas of production. This involves planning, co-ordinating and mixing the sound content for live and recorded radio programmes and other audio output platforms. You will sound design and master the content of features and built programmes using a variety of DAW equipment.

You will plan and organise the technical and staffing requirements for the more complex and demanding productions, including attending planning meetings, carrying out site surveys, specifying the technical requirements, booking the appropriate vehicles/equipment and negotiating with venue staff and members of the public.

Are you the right candidate?

You will possess an excellent knowledge and understanding of all relevant sound equipment. You will have a good understanding of classical music, be able to provide an excellent sound balance of the material and take guidance from music producers. You will have experience of mixing and mastering multi-layered radio features or podcasts. You will be able to manage your own time and plan effectively and work efficiently, keeping within budgetary requirements. You will be able to lead a crew and get the best out of them. You will be required to keep abreast of new technology and broadcasting techniques, suggesting and influencing equipment requirements. You will have knowledge and proven experience of studio and outside broadcast operations.
