Job Introduction

BBC Cymru Wales is the nation’s leading provider of news on television, radio, online and social media.

We are looking for a creative and experienced Senior Designer who will be a key member of BBC Wales News graphics team, delivering highly creative and hands on design solutions for daily news output as well as co-ordinating longer term graphic design projects for the team, across all platforms.

In addition, they will be expected to manage and mentor more junior staff as required.

The role is part of the Visual Journalism and Audiences team where the BBC Wales News audience and visual expertise sits.

This job involves shift and weekend working.

Role Responsibility

You will be responsible for BBC Wales News’ graphics teams’ output across all platforms.

You will provide design direction and guidance for junior members of the team, encouraging positive working relationship both within the team and in the wider newsroom.

You will manage daily responsibilities and workflow; often competing demands in a fast changing, and complex environment, and will be a key point of contact for the newsroom.

Are you the right candidate?

Experience of leading an on the day team and responding to a changing editorial agenda, demonstrating excellent communication skills in a pressurised environment.

An advanced Adobe Creative Suite User (experience of VizRt is also desirable).

Extensive portfolio of consistently great work demonstrating creative flair, a relevant degree or equivalent experience.

Demonstrate a passion for and an understanding of the area in which the role operates, and a technical understanding of studio, digital and production workflows.

Knowledge of the latest design trends and technology developments.

You will thrive in a fast-paced environment – with the ability to do your best work against tight deadlines.

Good organisational and communication skills and the ability to manage time effectively.
