BBC Studios is the most awarded Production Company and the biggest independent producer in the UK. The Factual Entertainment and Events team produce a wide breadth of content including; Top Gear, Dragon’s Den, The Earthshot Prize, prestigious Royal Ceremonial Event coverage including the Queen’s State Funeral, Antiques Roadshow, Countryfile, Gardeners’ World, Morning Live, Amazing Hotels and much more.
We are looking for a Senior Executive Producer Editor to lead The One Show, BBC 1’s flagship live daily magazine programme. The successful candidate will combine a deep understanding of The One Show output and BBC Studio’s editorial values with the creative skill and ideas to refine and refresh the editorial and drive deeper audience engagement.
Broadcast every weeknight on BBC One, The One Show covers a mix of topical, lifestyle, consumer, current affairs and celebrity chat. The tone ranges from the light-hearted to sometimes challenging content, if relevant, that taps into national concerns.
The One Show is a mirror on the UK and an important platform for the channel to showcase events and moments that unite the nation. The programme reflects the concerns and mood of people in all parts of Britain and plays a vital role in major BBC One events such as Comic Relief, Children in Need and the D-Day Celebrations. The content is a mix of live studio and pre-recorded VTs with topical/entertaining chat in the studio providing the glue. Up to 5 million watch each show, every week and its success lies in making The One Show inclusive of the broadest possible audience, embodying BBC One values.
The ideal candidate with be familiar with the editorial and technical challenges that come with being at the helm of a show of this stature. Reporting to the Genre MD and working closely with the Daytime and Early Peak commissioning team, the selected candidate will be expected to: manage the potential of a large team including on and off screen talent; develop a strong relationship with the BBC One Channel commissioner, provide first class leadership across both the editorial and production management teams on a permanent basis; encourage strong ideas that reflect our diverse nation; shape the strategy for the creative renewal of the brand; seek out opportunities to innovate and find new ways to increase audience engagement.

Are you the right candidate?
As the Senior Executive Producer, you will be passionate about telling stories that matter to our audience, you will have an acute understanding of what the nations audiences need and be able to tap into what they care about. We are looking for someone who already has an extensive, broad range of TV broadcast, editorial experience at Executive Producer, Series Editor or Series Producer level both within and outside BBC Studios, so please do not apply if you do not have this.
The Executive Producer will be supported by a senior team and will be able to proactively engage with talent and potential partners across the business and in other sectors to encourage a variety in content. They will work with their senior team to identify further opportunities for strategic growth that represent both the brand and the output.
You will bring extensive experience in managing large teams along with a strong background in delivering exceptional content for the UK audience. Previous experience leading large teams on fast-turnaround, live, talent-led programming is very much desired for this role as you will be expected to bring strong and inspiring leadership to a well-established team.
This role is accountable for the editorial quality of the output and, in partnership with colleagues, to manage the financial and operational challenges that go along with a large production with regular and multiple studio, location and pre-recorded elements.
You will have proven editorial skills and a thorough understanding and experience of managing content in terms of Editorial Policy, Commercial Policy, Producers Guidelines, Technical Standards and Health and Safety and must have excellent communication skills to ensure relationships with teams inside and outside of the BBC and BBC Studios remains effective. In particular, you will have demonstrable and extensive Commissioner relationships. You must be adaptable and resilient to be able to cope with the pressure of managing the demands of a high volume of work, meeting tight deadlines and managing a team through periods of change.
