The Code of Practice on the English language requirement for public sector workers, Part 7 of the Immigration Act 2016 requires that Councils ensure that all candidates applying for customer facing posts must be assessed in order to establish their fluency in English.

The criteria under special knowledge and experience on the job profile which is shown in this advert outlines what level of fluency you will be expected to demonstrate. Therefore, it is essential that you provide examples in your application.

We require three Admissions Officers to join Bradford Council’s Admissions Team permanently. These posts report to the Lead Officers and Team Leaders within the three different areas of the team. The successful applicants will carry out all processes in accordance with the Code of Practice for Admissions and for School Appeals, the Local Authority’s coordinated admission arrangements, school admissions policies and admissions legislation.

In addition, this post may be required to collate accurate and detailed documentation to be sent to parents who are preparing for their school appeal hearings, freedom of information requests and the Guides for Parents.

Attention to detail, accuracy, good organisation and record keeping will be key skills.

You will be working in a very busy team dedicated to ensuring that our school admissions procedures are carried out effectively and in accordance with policy and guidance. The team works to a number of statutory deadlines and there are times of the year when the workload is particularly heavy and deadlines clash.

This is a challenging role and we are looking for people with experience of working within an education/school or admissions focused role. You will have experience of implementing the School Admissions Code of Practice or similar. The role requires experience of liaising and negotiating with schools at a high level. In addition, you will require a minimum of two years’ administrative experience. You will provide advice to families, school’s and other professionals in sensitive situations in collaborative working relationships.

You will be responsible for safeguarding children and making referrals for support where children are not in school. You will have experience of managing your own workload and meeting tight statutory deadlines.

You must also be able to demonstrate an ability to adopt a process of continual improvement and suggest ways for working more efficiently and effectively to improve service delivery, whilst abiding by the Codes of Practice for Admissions and Appeals. You will also need to demonstrate an awareness and understanding of data protection and data security protocols.
