About this role

Operations Speciliast is a technical role providing 2nd/3rd line support of the BT Mobile Cloud Core estate in the Mobile Cloud Core Solutions Reliability Engineering team. Mobile Cloud Core Operations are accountable for the smooth and cost effective running of the mobile cloud core network and its associated services. Team members support incident, change & problem management as well as project related work. Members also participate in a 24x7x365 emergency callout rota.

You will be responsible for specifying, building, securing and supporting environments that enable subscriber services to function within a mobile phone cloud core network. You will have both the technical skills and proven experience to support the following areas:

  • Juniper Contrail SDN and associated services
  • Integration of Juniper Contrail SDN with Telco cloud components and open stack
  • Good knowledge of Security Vulnerabilities across the IT industry and experience of Security Hardening strategy and practice.
  • Driving best practice in Data Security concepts and protection systems.
  • Provide 2nd/3rd line support of the BT Mobile Cloud Packet Core estate.

You’ll have the following skills & experience:

  • Excellent understanding of Juniper Contrail SDN Networking (inc. leaf/spine architecture)
  • Good understanding of Juniper Virtualised firewalls i.e vSRX running JUNOS
  • Juniper vendor led training and/or accreditation.
  • understanding of Openstack environments
  • Familiarity with navigating JUNOS command line
  • Solid Networking background including dynamic routing protocols such as BGP.
  • Excellent understanding of containerisation technologies including Docker/ContainerD
  • Good working knowledge of Juniper tools and processes

Bonus to have:

  • Be conversant with virtual network tenant technologies such as BGPaaS, BFD
  • Experience with the ELK stack (Elasticsearch, Logstash & Kibana)
  • Exposure to system performance, diagnosis and investigation tools (e.g. Prometheus & Grafana)
  • Familiarisation with GIT based repositories
  • Receiving Security scan report results and Implementing highlighted patches using change management.
  • Experience of dealing with 3rd party vendor support

Detailed Responsibilities:

  • Ensure that all platforms/ systems/services in your control achieve the agreed availability target, ensure that adequate expert support is available 24 x 7 x 365
  • Provide 2nd line support to tenant teams, on all K8S-based cluster architecture deployments & its features such as Load Balancing, Network plugins & CNI’s etc
  • Troubleshoot Network flows & connectivity between K8S Nodes/PODs, & between K8S PODs and the adjacent SDN hand-off points
  • Build/deploy K8S-based cluster architecture, including tenant-specific Openstack & Juniper SDN components
  • Triage faults on tenant NFVi layer, involving tenant-specific SDN & Openstack configuration, which may involve further investigation into underlying Cloud infrastructure
  • Troubleshoot the instantiation and onboarding of instances using HEAT templates in yaml format
  • Support & maintain Virtualised F5 BIG-IP instances in tenant environments running SSH proxy, DNS Forwarding Services
  • Supplier Management- Ensure that all cases escalated to support vendors are resolved within the appropriate time scales. Provide assistance to suppliers when required.
  • Ensure documentation and support procedures are kept up to date.
  • Mentor junior team members.
  • Work with the other teams to develop, configure and maintain the infrastructure management solutions and tools required to manage all data services. Participate in all appropriate project forums.
  • Provide support to various stakeholders such as Technology Operations Centre, Design, Build, Network Cloud and Dynamic Infrastructure, Capacity Planning, Revenue Assurance and Customer Experience.
