Cornwall Council’s Waste Service provides high profile, statutory waste collection, cleansing and disposal services to the residents and visitors of Cornwall. The services are mainly delivered through large contracts with external providers to a consistently high standard. Now is an exciting time to be a part of our motivated and high performing team, as we embark on the expansion of our chargeable waste collection service, to deliver the objectives of our resources and waste strategy and climate change commitments.

The Role

Reporting to the Senior Chargeable Waste Officer, the postholder will support the management, development and administration of the Council’s Chargeable Waste Services including supporting the development of new service offers, expanding the existing services and customer base, along with increasing income generation. These services are provided primarily through a high value, public facing contract which provides waste collection and cleansing services across Cornwall.

The Chargeable Waste Officer will assist in maximising opportunities and income, liaising with customers and other stakeholders, promoting and selling the available services, whilst maintaining administrative systems, processes and records and producing performance reports. The role includes a specific focus on supporting the management of the Council’s commercial waste collection service, working with the contractor to deliver the services.

The Council is preparing for significant change to the design of household waste collections from 2023, this will also impact on commercial waste customers, and the postholder will have a key role in developing the commercial waste collection service ahead of this change.

This is a fixed term role for 18 months. This position may be extended at a later date, dependant on the success of the new services, and the level of additional income generated.

Requirements

Educated to A’ level or equivalent relevant experience, the successful applicant will be able to demonstrate considerable knowledge and experience of providing high quality customer service and support in a sales and marketing related capacity.

Adept at in working in a service delivery environment, managing service and contract queries received from customers, the right candidate will also have experience of developing and managing customer databases, monitoring performance and producing relevant reports. We are therefore looking for someone who has excellent organisational, administrative and IT skills, who can effectively use Microsoft applications.

This is a customer facing role and the successful candidate will possess excellent customer service skills, and the ability to advise potential customers of the rules, legislation and the service we provide. The postholder will also be adept at developing and maintaining good working relationships.
