Directorate: Peoples Services
Hours: 37 hours a week
Contract type: Permanent
Location: Council House/Home Working
Derby City LA area has a population of around 250,000. In the heart of the East Midlands with excellent road and rail links and affordable housing it’s a great place to live. Surrounded by beautiful countryside the LA itself is small and travelling around the city for work is easy.
The Council itself employs around 6000 people – small enough for it to be possible to get to know people in other teams and services. Good relationships are important to us and we really value partnership working and a collaborative approach.
In October 2021, following a written statement of action (issued in 2019), Ofsted and the CQC revisited Derby to decide whether sufficient progress had been made in addressing areas of significant weakness. They found that Derby had made sufficient progress in all 5 areas.
Together with colleagues in health and social care we have worked hard over the last few years, to change the culture and to become more ambitious for our children with special educational needs and disabilities. Our vision is for every child and young person with SEND in Derby to live their best life .
In the last 18 months a number of our EPs have made the decision to leave LA employment or seek employment elsewhere so we are now seeking to rebuild the team and to employ 2 new Educational Psychologists to join us.
We are looking for qualified Educational Psychologists or trainee EPs in their final year of training. We are feeling positive about the future of the service and the opportunity to welcome new staff.
The successful applicant will work as part of the Specialist Teaching and Psychology Service (STePS). We are a small, motivated, friendly, supportive and professional team comprising specialist teachers, practitioners and advisors who work alongside Educational Psychologists to provide a fully integrated service for children, schools and early years settings.
Team members work remotely and are entitled to flexible working to support a healthy work-life balance. As a LA employee you will have access to CPD and you will receive supervision and support from your peers.
Derby is a multi-cultural city with a diverse population. We hope you will consider joining us.
