The Team seeks a capable leader to provide strategic direction and oversight of the costs function within GLD. The work is niche and often crosscutting and the post holder will be expected to work in partnership with a range of stakeholders across government to further the Government’s aims of maximising recovery and minimising spend.

The post holder will also be required to build relationships with litigation teams and client departments to help deliver further efficiencies and proactively shape cost strategies and internal policy. Leadership and management is an essential part of the role and the post holder will be expected to drive delivery of quality costs services and to actively promote and develop the team as a Centre of Excellence. The post holder will play a full role in corporate leadership of the division as well as provide costs advice and briefings to Government Legal Department senior colleagues.

The role requires the post holder to manage two G6 (senior) lawyers, and lead the wider team of more junior costs lawyers and draftspersons, and business management colleagues, of varying levels of experience. As such, a proven track record of successfully managing staff embedding best practice, and leadership, is essential.

The DD also works closely with the Head of Division and other SCS team leaders in the Division as part of the Justice and Development Division Senior Leadership Team.
