About the job
We are looking for a Deputy Director (DD) to lead our Costs Team. This is a new post arising from a restructure that resulted in the Costs Team becoming a standalone team in Justice and Development Division (rather than being part of a wider team). This structural change reflects the growth of the Costs Team, and the increased high profile and significant and cross-cutting nature of its work.
This is an exciting opportunity to head up a unique team which is a Centre of Excellence sitting in the heart of Litigation Group. The team provides advice and expert costs litigation services to an unparalleled range of HM Government Departments and Executive Agencies, working with them to develop strategies to reduce litigation cost spend. The team consists of approximately 20 costs lawyers and draftspersons, assisted by a small team of Business Management staff. It is supported in the delivery of its services by a panel of private sector providers and is responsible for oversight of contract performance and procurement arrangements for that panel. The team’s key clients are the Ministry of Justice, Home Office and the Ministry of Defence, however as a Centre of Excellence it regularly provides services and ad hoc advice to an extensive range of Departments and stakeholders. It is uniquely placed to support the entire range of litigation services which GLD provides and routinely works on costs litigation arising from judicial review to inquests, personal injury to planning, including dealing with significant high profile group actions, and providing cost services to public inquiries such as the Brook House Inquiry and the Horizon Inquiry.
