Our client has an exciting opportunity for a Payroll Officer on a full-time permanent basis based at their Pembroke House Office in Pitsea, Basildon. In return you will receive a competitive salary of £33,057 per annum.

About the Payroll Officer role:

As their Payroll Officer your duty is to support the Payroll team in delivering a comprehensive in-house payroll service for 3,300 employees using Access People XD (previously Core HR). Working in a team of 10, to ensure the monthly payrolls are prepared, run and reconciled in an accurate and timely manner.

What they’re looking for in their Payroll Officer:

  • Previous experience of working within an in-house payroll function including data input, calculation and reconciliations using a payroll software package.
  • Ability to perform manual payroll calculations for tax, NI and other associated statutory payments.
  • Good numerical abilities and proficient in the use of Microsoft Excel.
  • An understanding of GDPR and the importance of maintaining confidentiality at all times.

What you can expect to be doing as their Payroll Officer:

  • Responsible for the start to finish processing of the monthly payroll cycle for circa 1,400 employees.
  • Working in collaboration with the Payroll Officers to accurately calculate and process payments for new starters, leavers, contract changes, pensions, flexible benefits, bonuses, advances, voluntary deductions and any other ad hoc adjustments.
  • Calculation of sickness, parental leave and associated statutory payments (SSP, SMP, SPP, SAP, SHPP).
  • Importing monthly tax code and student loan changes through the HMRC online platform.
  • Preparing and uploading bonus and holiday payments into the payroll system.
  • Rotational checking of trial payroll runs and exception reports, making any corrections or amendments where necessary.
  • Full reconciliation of basic pay, ensuring all payments are processed in accordance with HR instructions and the employee’s contractual terms and conditions.
  • Assist with the preparation of the monthly payroll reports and the reconciliation of bonuses, flexible benefits, termination payments, allowances, deductions, court orders and expenses.
  • Taking full responsibility for employee queries by ensuring they are dealt with in a timely and professional manner.
  • Calculating payroll advances and setting up payments in the banking system.
  • Collaborating with HRSS and Finance teams to ensure monthly payroll schedule remains on track.
  • Liaising with HMRC, DWP and other third party stakeholders.
  • Running monthly payslips and P45 files.
  • Providing support and cover for other team members where necessary.
