The Role

We are looking for twelve month’s maternity cover for the role of International Policy Manager, responsible for managing the implementation of the international practice of law strategy, supporting solicitors of England & Wales in growing their global footprint.

The International Policy Manager will have experience in one or more areas including the legal services sector, international trade and international business development. You will work with the Head of International and the other International Policy Manager (International Rule of Law and Human Rights), to lead a busy and productive team as they work to represent and support Law Society members internationally.

Specifically, you will lead a team of international policy advisers and policy assistants, overseeing the provision of high quality specialist advice on and develop policy in respect of the international practice of the law for our members, providing advice to members on their international/regional/country strategy; responding to consultations on practice rights/market access/international trade agreements; and supporting the UK government and other stakeholders in their own activities to facilitate the ease of doing legal business internationally. What we’re looking for

The candidate will have a demonstrable stakeholder engagement experience, including at a senior level, and great negotiation on and communication skills, with an ability to influence others, command respect and represent the Law Society credibly at a senior level.

You will be responsible for ensuring that the team is clear on how their work feeds into and supports the organisational strategy and member offer, feeding into the business planning process and developing and reporting against key performance indicators.
