The PR and Public Affairs Manager will deliver a PR/Communications strategy for Low Carbon which clearly positions Low Carbon as a leader in its sector and supports the growth of the brand in our key markets and target audiences. You will create and manage a Communications/PR calendar which maximises high-quality brand visibility throughout each calendar year and ensures a consistent and powerful, purpose-led Low Carbon presence, ensuring communications and brand consistency across all comms and stakeholder activity.

  • Leverage, develop and manage top tier media relationships relevant to our core audiences and markets, exploring opportunities for increased, high-quality PR coverage for Low Carbon
  • Proactively identify opportunities and secure positive coverage through features and news stories across all target media
  • Leverage proven copywriting skills to draft and create key communications including press releases and thought leadership pieces. Ability to apply writing skills to support the creation of key external documents including sustainability reports and annual reports
  • Be able to distil complex, technical topics into clear, accessible narratives for a range of technical and non-technical audiences across a range of media
  • Oversee press and external stakeholder enquiries
  • Implement and manage a crisis management plan and process
  • Maintain media monitoring for Low Carbon – monitor press releases and media coverage that relate to the company’s brand
  • Prepare detailed monthly media activity reports including total reach, sentiment, key message penetration and geographic reach

Public Affairs

Managing a Retained Public Affairs Agency You’ll

The PR and Public Affairs manager will also seek to build close and effective relationships with important policymakers and opinion-formers that support Low Carbon’s aspirations of creating impact by delivering renewable energy at scale.

  • Develop stakeholder maps and key relationship development plans and expand existing stakeholder relationships important to Low Carbon
  • Monitor policy developments making sure we engage early to maximise the impact of our policy contributions. Horizon scan, together with business leadership to anticipate issues that may impact Low Carbon and to inform our Public Affairs approach

Internal Communications

Ability to utilise your proven communications skills to shape and coordinate Low Carbon internal communications:

  • Working with key internal stakeholder, develop, implement and monitor Low Carbon’s internal communication strategy and annual plans
  • Increase employees’ understanding of Low Carbon’s business priorities and key initiatives – helping to shape each employee into a brand ambassador. Infuse internal comms with Low Carbon’s spirit and voice, always telling a story that captivates.
  • Support in the crafting of internal executive communications including speeches, presentations, internal announcements and company events
  • Manage any critical event communications including crisis comms and business continuity impacts

Skills & Experience

  • Significant experience in crafting and delivering impactful messaging and PR programmes
  • Proven experience in corporate reputation management
  • Experience in B2B and professional services an advantage
  • Significant and demonstrable track-record of obtaining influential media coverage in globally relevant tier 1 publications
  • Proven experience in engaging and building relationships with journalists both proactively and reactively
  • Experience coordinating organisation’s responses to criticism or difficult issues
  • Excellent writing skills, able to write content for a range of audiences, translating complex and technical language into easy-to-understand content
  • Capable of identifying news and content opportunities relevant to our sector to support growing brand presence and authority
  • Proven agency management skills
  • Excellent Microsoft Office skills
  • Business or marketing related degree, or equivalent
