About the job

We are seeking an External Relations Officer to join the Advocacy, Nations and External Relations (ANER) team to work across all aspects of CMA’s stakeholder engagement, with a particular focus on promoting CMA’s messages to businesses. This is an excellent opportunity for someone with an interest in both policy and communications.

As the UK’s world-leading competition authority our purpose is to make sure competition works in consumers’ favour, and businesses treat their customers fairly.

ANER ensures businesses are aware and compliant with the latest competition and consumer law and the findings of our investigations. ANER delivers a strong advocacy programme that promotes collaborative relationships with influential stakeholders, spanning businesses, consumer and third sector organisations, government and parliament.

As an External Relations Officer, you will identify opportunities to share competition and consumer law compliance messages and work with CMA case teams to convey these effectively to a range of audiences and amplify the impact of CMA’s digital campaigns through stakeholder engagement. This will entail mapping and monitoring influential stakeholders, developing strategic communications plans, and event managing CMA’s speaking events i.e. briefing CMA spokespeople, co-ordinating diaries, helping prepare presentations and Q&A, and post event evaluation.

Key to this role will be your excellent oral and written communication skills. Your application will need to evidence the ability to collaborate with various stakeholders and evaluate campaign activity, through the collection and analysis of data, informing and shaping future plans. Your communication expertise will be supported with excellent project management skills, with a track record of delivering campaigns and events to agreed timelines. Lastly experience or understanding of government policy priorities, and of the processes by which policy and law is made and implemented, and how it can affect market outcomes, is also required.

In return the CMA is a hugely diverse, rewarding and stimulating place to work – an opportunity to work for the public good and to stretch and develop yourself in doing so. We offer generous benefits, including an excellent pension scheme, at least 25 days leave (increasing to 30 over five years), and generous maternity/paternity leave provision. You can also take advantage of interest-free season ticket loans, a cycle to work scheme, our employee assistance programme and flexible working options.
