About the Team

Within Chief digital and Information Officer (CDIO) Customer Engagement and IT Business Services, Personal Tax we deliver critical services to UK Customers including Self-Assessment, PAYE and National Insurance collecting over £296 Billion in NI and PAYE. We are transforming our IT and building trusted, modern taxation systems fit for the challenges and opportunities of the 21st Century.

A Product manager is responsible for facilitating a product team to build and release digital products or features. Product managers understand the business goals, the user needs for the service, and the different options for how to build and scope the digital product according to those needs. Associate product managers at HMRC can make use of multiple learning and development opportunities to develop their product management skills if joining at entry level. Product managers at HMRC follow the government Digital, Data and Technology (DDaT) capability framework and career paths.

Responsibilities

This is a demanding role and as the successful Associate Product Owner you will support the Lead Product Manager and Senior Leadership Team in translating Spending Review investment into products that deliver a range of features and capabilities which will deliver HMRC modernisation, Data strategies and new technological and business products.

  • The successful candidates will help Product Leads create the future vision, strategy for our Technology services, platforms and products, developing the product roadmap and management of the product backlog
  • They will scope, explain and iterate a product or its features, based on understanding user needs and business needs. You should be able to explain the impact of these iterations and get buy in for the approach from various stakeholders
  • Manage a product backlog, writing user stories and making decisions about prioritisation based on evidence
  • Set measurable goals for your product and report against these to demonstrate progress against stated benefits
  • Help support the vision, roadmaps and delivery of other products in your programme and HMRC
  • Participate in, and contribute to the Product management community of practice, whether through taking part in community initiatives, running sessions or talks, or other activities which support other product managers
  • The successful candidate will be able to understand the product lifecycle and it’s phases, including how to manage and maintain live services

The successful candidate will need to support the Lead Product Manager in driving engagement with Senior leads and stakeholders to shape and influence product iteration and delivery activity and governance

Essential Criteria

The successful candidate will need to demonstrate practical experience in the following key disciplines:

• Demonstrate an understanding of user centred design, technology and data principles

• Awareness of the full product life cycle

• Managing stakeholders skills and capabilities

• Ability to collaborate with other professions or specialists to solve a problem, including suppliers and other IT of Digital delivery professions
