HSBC Market & Securities Services (MSS) provides comprehensive global, regional and domestic fund services including fund administration, global custody and sub-custody settlement and services.

We are seeking a professional to join the team as a Senior Manager, US Tax Services, working within our Global Banking & Markets (GBM), MSS business.

A high level overview of the role is: responsibility for ensuring all entities in scope are reconciled and reported accurately and on time, for executing and embedding the global Taxops strategy specifically related to the Atlanta 1099 and 1042-S US tax reporting.

Managing and leading a team of 7, ensuring good communication, good workflow practices, recruitment, and retention, as well as the adherence and adoption of standards and best practices in order to maintain efficiency and control, minimise operational/financial risk and provide excellent client service.

In this role you will

  • Effectively manage and support the team ensuring all operational and personnel factors are considered and acted upon in a fair and transparent manner
  • Maintenance of an effective, quality service and reduce client risk to a minimum by ensuring that US tax issues are addressed/US declarations are processed promptly, in accordance with agreed timeframes.
  • Contribute towards successful tax authority audits by ensuring ongoing compliance with the various tax regimes (US and Irish QI). All static data must be kept up-to-date and all documentation received must be validated to ensure 100% compliance.
  • Ensure all regulatory reporting is submitted prior to deadlines laid down by the relevant authority to avoid financial loss and reputational damage.
  • Proactively identify new/amendments to procedures and controls and ensure these are documented on a timely basis and communicated to all staff.
  • Escalate complex issues/concerns to the Head of Corporate Actions, including staff and resourcing issues, compliance breaches, errors, losses and near misses on a timely basis and in accordance with defined escalation procedures.
  • Ensure that client and bank records are correct by investigating and resolving all queries, exceptions, Qtracks, etc. within agreed timeframes.


To be successful, you should meet the following requirements

  • Experience of leading teams and proven ability to drive change to improve performance and team ownership
  • Knowledge of the US tax documentation requirements under the Qualified Intermediary regime including Master / Feeder structures
  • Knowledge of the US 1099 and 1042 reconciliation and reporting regimes
  • Highly proficient with Excel (V-lookups, pivot tables, etc.) and of a good standard across other MS applications
  • Takes a client focussed approach
  • Demonstrates drive and enthusiasm with the ability to work in a pressurised environment and manage priorities effectively through effective planning, organisation, and time management skills
  • Knowledge of custody products

The role has a hybrid working pattern. You will work from your home base and HSBC office at 8 Canada Square, London
