Job Description:
This is an excellent opportunity to join the Food Technology team within the Ambient department, where we have big plans to drive market share and bring exciting product innovation to our customers. Working in the Grocery category, you will be responsible for working with our suppliers around the world to deliver our products; anything from canned tuna, Italian antipasti to basmati rice to cupcake baking kits.

- Create and deliver research and innovation plans
- Input to/Determine technical vision and input into strategy for your product area

- Provide up to date technical advice across the BU for specific products and other areas of technical responsibility
- Maintain professional status & accreditation of Institute of Food Science and Technology (IFST), or similar body, through appropriate Continuing Professional Development (CPD)
- Where appropriate provide line management for the technical team, including setting the framework for continual up-skilling and development of the team, involving the team in decision making and having a direct and positive working relationship with team (Technical and Category)
- Representation of the Business Unit and the company externally on industry issues
- Work with cross subject area groups on initiatives that require technical input
- Exploit new systems and processes building a better business
- Ensure ongoing technical benchmarking of industry sector to provide input for selecting a supply base
- Participation in action groups/project teams to drive business knowledge base and governance of key topics
Qualification & Experience:
- The ideal candidate will have a strong background in Ambient manufacturing or retail, with a good knowledge of thermal processing for ambient stable products.
- The individual will specialise in role at M&S, and unlike our other Technologist roles will remain in category rather than moving categories every couple of years.
