Brief Description

We are looking for a Principal Safety & Security Culture Specialist for a permanent post based in Milton Keynes. You will lead and govern Network Rail’s strategic framework to improve our health, safety and security culture by providing strong expert leadership across this subject matter. This leader will be the Company expert for health, safety and security cultural improvement.

About the role (What will your day look like?)

The role of Principal Safety & Security Culture Specialist is a multifaceted role in that you will undertake various duties including (but not limited too):

  • Support the organisation by providing leadership across the business on health, safety and security culture change whist acting as the expert for the Organisation.
  • Support the specialists across the business to enable a programme of health, safety and security culture change aligned to our vision.
  • Govern the framework of health, safety and security framework to deliver effective controls to improve our health, safety and security culture processes and policies.
  • Oversee the delivery of the specific health, safety and security culture improvement elements area of the Safety strategy to support Regions and Functions target culture changes.
  • Act as a Lead Network Rail’s Control framework for health, safety and security culture setting policies that will identify and define health, safety and security culture so that management of potential risks and opportunities are continuously improved, including the development of operational Rules, regulations and instructions.
  • Support the development of health, safety and security competence matrix for health, safety and security culture to provide a clear framework for Regions, Routes and Functions to utilise for staff to become suitably competent
  • Oversee the management of the Trades Union Representatives and their relationships with the wider business by supervising safety coaches so that coaching ethics are fulfilled, to allow Trade Union representatives and safety coaches to be able to provide independent feedback to managers in the wider business regarding safety, health and security compliance of frontline activities set out to improve safety culture.
  • Liaise with other groups and external parties, such as ORR, Trade Unions, Contractors, RSSB to promote the clear understanding safety culture and leadership issues and solutions representing Network Rail.

Person Specification

The successful candidate for this role will be required to be/have: –

  • Relevant level 5 qualification in a culture change subject (coaching or change management)
  • Relevant professional competence e.g. member of the International Coach Federation (ICF)
  • Successful experience of working at a strategic level within organisational culture change
  • Experience of successfully managing teams to deliver organisational culture change
  • Successful experience of developing strategic improvement plans and delivering tangible
  • Demonstrable understanding of techniques for identifying and implementing risk controls
  • Successful experience implementing improvements in a safety critical or operational/railway industry
  • Successful experience of coaching
