Technical Authority (TA) are a vitally important part of the freight and passenger business. We are here to consistently deliver for our front line and customers today, tomorrow and for the future.

TA’s purpose is to support our front line to deliver safe and efficient performance for passengers and freight. We do this through providing technical leadership and specialist expertise, managing the National Control and Competence Frameworks, facilitating technical growth and lateral learning and assuring regional delivery.

The Europe CCS team leads strategic developments including future Europe’s Rail Joint Undertaking (ERJU), the Target190plus programme, the European Train Control System (ETCS), Automatic Train Operation (ATO) and Traffic Management Systems (TMS). We deliver technical demonstrators that are critical in proving new CCS technology is fit for a railway of the future. We do all this by working in close collaboration with railways and suppliers from across GB, Europe and beyond.

Our role is to find creative technical solutions to problems, to set effective strategy and policy, to cut red tape, to find better ways of doing things and to provide strong competence and assurance regimes that make sure we do things effectively.

Brief Description

Who are we looking for?

The Engineer will play a vital role in our CCS (Control Command and Signalling) Europe Team leading and providing expertise to European and industry CCS standards, research and development. This is your chance to help shape the future of railway signalling and control systems for the next generation.

shaping Strategy and Policy for future CCS environment, you will also provide support for capability assessment, act as a focus point for standard methodology and technical engineering input, support and advice across the CCS discipline.

About The Role (External)

Vacancy Type: Permanent, Full-time.

Location: This role is based at Quadrant MK or London Enterprise House.

Band & Salary: 4C, £41,711 – £46,925

What does the average day look like?

In this role, you will undertake a diverse range of tasks which includes, but is not limited to, the following:

  • Support the development and work to agreed operational processes.
  • Providing support for strategy, product and asset development.
  • Undertake and support Engineering Verification activities.
  • Act as Delivery Manager for delivery of a specific project or portfolio of projects and deliver projects to time, cost and quality.

What essential skills and experiences are required?

  • HNC/HND or equivalent qualification or demonstrate equivalent experience
  • Substantial experience in engineering relevant to this role
  • Sound knowledge of relevant policies and standards
  • An understanding of safety management systems and risk assessment techniques

We would also like, but it isn’t crucial:

  • Engineering degree
  • Incorporated Engineer or Chartered Engineer
  • Project management experience and awareness of project management techniques
  • Railway industry experience
