Amazon is a fast-paced, dynamic, high-tech company based in Seattle. Amazon’s Global Accounting Technology team is searching for a bar-raising Sr. Program Manager who can help us to run the Accounting wide major initiatives that could impact thousands of customers.

The ATEAM (Accounting, Tools, Entities, Automation, and Management Reporting) Technology team is a dedicated group of Amazonians in global accounting. We identify processes for automation, facilitate process improvement workshops, document automation use cases, build the automation, and launch and manage automations. Our team’s primary focus is to provide accounting process optimization, standardization, and technology services to help Global Accounting and Finance communities improve efficiency and controllership by reducing procedural frictions and enabling automated solutions for greater productivity.

We are looking for a Sr. Program Manager to lead the major projects in Accounting. Key leadership over portfolio of projects aligned to accounting leadership goals and global community. This role will be the driving force, face, and voice that leads multiple project and financial system product objectives, while collaborating with accounting statutory, compliance, and technical teams across the globe.

  • Interact with Project Sponsors, Project Stakeholders, multiple accounting and technical teams to define and deliver complex features
  • Drive programs to completion across multiple organizations and teams
  • Anticipate bottlenecks, provide escalation management, anticipate and make tradeoffs, and balance the business needs versus technical constraints
  • Plan and manage multiple parallel projects. Maximize resources for the greater good of the organization
  • Identify, assess, track and mitigate issues and risks at multiple levels
  • Create, maintain and disseminate project information to stakeholders
  • Drive effective teamwork, communication, collaboration and commitment across multiple disparate groups with competing priorities
  • Be the glue that is able to understand, plan, and manage the cross-team interdependencies for complex systems
  • Communicate project issues and status in a concise, accurate, and professional manner
  • Build and maintain integrated project schedules that account for internal/external dependencies, differing SDLC approaches, numerous constraints, and adequately factors in some contingency for some unplanned delays while still be aggressive
  • Remain flexible to changing priorities, open to new ideas and have Amazon’s success firmly in your focus
  • Scheduling meetings with stakeholders for clarifications, and status update
  • Monitor timelines on a regular basis and plan the project accordingly.
  • Coordinating with users and tech teams for best practices.

A day in the life

In this role, you will use project and program management principles managing a portfolio of projects; define scope and goals, align corporate and customer success criteria, create program milestone views, create communication and engagement plans, prioritize work and suggest tradeoffs, and provide escalation paths for issues and risks. The role will drive project solutions that are scalable, secure and flexible. The ideal candidate is customer obsessed, delivery focused, a demonstrated leader, creates order from ambiguity, and has superior collaboration and communication skills.

About The Team

The ATEAM (Accounting, Tools, Entities, Automation, and Management Reporting) Technology team is a dedicated group of program managers and technical resources in accounting who will identify manual effort reduction (MER) opportunities for operational accountants that includes the repetitive and mundane activities. In addition, we help to facilitate process improvement workshops, document automation use cases, build, launch and manage the automations.

Our team’s primary focus is to provide accounting process optimization, standardization, and technology services to help to Global Accounting and Finance communities in efforts to improve efficiency and controllership by reducing procedural frictions and enable automated solutions for greater productivity.

Basic Qualifications

  • 5+ years of experience in program or project management
  • Experience using data and metrics to drive improvements
  • Experience owning program strategy, end to end delivery, and communicating results to senior leadership
  • Seasoned project manager with 5 years’ experience managing technology projects (software development and application infrastructure) with aggressive schedules
  • 5+ years of experience delivering cross functional projects
  • 5+ years of experience working cross functionally with tech and non-tech teams
  • Experience with project delivery for large, global, cross functional projects
  • Familiarity and previous experience with agile and waterfall methodologies
  • PMP Certification ( Preferable)

Preferred Qualifications

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills, including excellent listening skills, concise communications and targeting the message to specific audiences
  • Proven problem-solving skills and technical project experience
  • Experience within complex organizational settings (e.g., PMO, geographic dispersion, etc.)
  • Experience with accounting and finance systems and processes
  • Bias for action and “get it done” attitude
  • Experience in one or more fortune 500 companies
  • Basic working knowledge in accounting/finance/tax
