Front Office Python Developer

As a Barclays Front Office Python Developer, you will be joining an existing team working on the DataDesk system. DataDesk is the principal provider of market data for the daily calculation of QIS products. You will provide python development to build new functionality. Further, at the end of 2023, the team will start work on transitioning the architecture to a more resilient design, so development work will be a mix of tactical and strategic initiatives.

This opportunity is location flexible. We will consider requests for locating the role at an alternative Barclays’ key UK office from that advertised.

We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Handling technical development with some 2nd / 3rd line support
  • You will be developing high quality maintainable code for yourself and the wider team
  • Making technical decisions that require a good understanding of the problem domain, both technical & business
  • Collaborating and communicating globally with other developers and teams, and users, to build technical solutions

What We’re Looking For

  • Degree in a numerate discipline or Computer Science with real-world knowledge of data structures, algorithms as well as strong general problem-solving skills
  • Python 3 and common libraries, particularly pandas, NumPy and flask
  • SQL Server (or Oracle, SQLite, etc.)
  • Proficient background in OO platform (java/dot NET)

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • Experience of working with market data and a background in derivatives and a familiarity with Linux/RedHat
  • Familiarity with automation technologies, for example, TeamCity, Autosys, Jenkins, CI, etc
  • Competence in scripting technologies, for example, Bash, JavaScript, VB, PowerShell, bat files, etc
  • A good knowledge of software development methods, tools and standards to ensure delivered code complies with said practices
