Mainframe Systems Programmer

As a Barclays Mainframe Systems Programmer, you will be at the heart of our ability to deliver and support resilient, secure infrastructure technology and services to customers, clients and colleagues. Working within the Group Technology Infrastructure Services (GTIS), you will be instrumental in ensuring that all IMS systems, which run on mainframe are managed in a way that is acceptable to both Barclays and their customers.

What will you be doing?

• Diagnosing problems through the use of analytical skills, supporting colleagues to learn new skills in problem diagnosis
• Supporting and maintenance of IMS systems from an infrastructure perspective
• Preparing and implementing changes to the Mainframe IMS Environment
• Driving team development in both technical and non-technical areas
• Resolving Incidents and problems for the IMS Environment to meet our SLA’s

What We’re Looking For

• Must have the curiosity to investigate or discover potential improvements, new products/features and/or resolve any underlying issues that fall within our scope
• Must demonstrate the attention to detail that helps prevent errors and allows us to execute all of our tasks to the best of our ability as a team
• Good understanding of mainframe processes and tools such as JCL, TWS, RACF or other z/OS operational tools
• IT security awareness

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

• A desire to do the right thing with each and every challenge that comes our way
• An interest in mainframe innovation and/or continuous improvement
• Experience in the installation, maintenance and upgrade of mainframe products
• Practical experience working on Mainframe Infrastructure; or mainframe application experience and some understanding of IMS infrastructure

Where will you be working?

You will be based in Radbroke, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our tech command centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64 acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play. We have an onsite gym, as well as outdoor tennis, football and cricket areas, as well as onsite restaurant and coffee shops.
