Software Defined Network Engineer

As a Barclays Software Defined Network Engineer this is an exciting opportunity where you will have the responsibility of evaluating software and hardware in the private cloud. Communicating with both vendors and internal stakeholders to ensure the successful delivery of products under evaluation and certification through to the successful production deployment.

Hybrid Working

What will you be doing?

• You will perform proof-of-concept work such as evaluating technology products and solutions that may provide value to the organization
• Working ahead of the teams in planning and architecting solutions, documenting findings and transitioning work to the engineering teams or vendor for production implementation
• Developing and delivering long term strategic goals for technology infrastructure services architecture vision and standards in conjunction with Service Providers and key stakeholders
• Creating short term tactical solutions to achieve long-term objectives and an overall technology management roadmap
• You will develop and maintain architectural governance, stewardship, and frameworks for managing technology across the organization
• Conducting technology life cycle, duration, usage requirements, feasibility studies, and other tasks
• Mentoring engineering and/or infrastructure teams in best practices with a focus on delivering consistently high-quality solutions with supporting test cases and documentation
• Working with both onsite and remote teams to ensure that high-quality solutions are delivered in a timely fashion

What We’re Looking For

• Experience on software defined networking products
• Good understanding of networking protocols – switching technologies, routing fundamentals, firewalls, IP subnets, firewalling, load balancing, zones and Management Networks.
• Experience of delivering solution in the private cloud space including product selection and product certification
• A clear communicator and experience of working with stakeholders to deliver a secure solution, creation of run books and level four support

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

• Experience on VMware ESXi 6.x & 7.x, VMware vCenter server 6.5, 6.7 & 7 including VMware Cloud Foundation
• Experience on NSX-V & NSX-T implementation along with Micro-segmentation.
• Certification of VMware 6.5 Data Center Virtualization (VCP6.5-DCV) or equivalent
• Certification of VMware– Network Virtualization (VCP6-NV) or equivalent knowledge on VMWare vRealize Automation

You will be based in Radbroke Hall, Knutsford. The Barclays Technology Campus just outside Manchester is our Tech Command Centre and a vital strategic powerhouse behind our global operations. The campus is set in a 64-acre self-contained site, in a beautiful green environment and it offers unrivalled facilities for work and for play.
