Software Engineer

As a Barclays Software Engineer, you will design and implement secured software solutions, both for backend and frontend using modern languages and technologies. You will work closely with colleagues to rapidly iterate requirements producing production strength scalable and resilient software which will be used by millions of customers. We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Promoting and driving innovation by actively advocating new tools, processes and technical developments to drive continuous development
  • Producing clean efficient code based on specifications as and when required
  • Developing components including back end using modern languages and techniques
  • Creating and maintaining deployment tooling and automation to support the CI/CD pipelines
  • Collaborating with team members on best practices on a regular basis
  • Promoting effective cloud-based approaches as and when required
  • Embracing agile methodologies to rapidly iterate solutions as required
  • Driving innovation through rapid prototyping and iterative development

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience with development of RESTful Web Services
  • Deep knowledge of Java, .Net, Go, C and Scala
  • Working Knowledge of SCM, packaging and build tools such as GIT, Jenkins and Maven/Gradle
  • Willingness to work on both front and backend software challenges

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • Experience of working within Financial Services industry
  • Experience in creating prototypes and working directly with stakeholders
  • Experience with Event based architectures
  • Experience of using Kafta and AWS

Where will you be working?

Northampton was the birthplace of Barclaycard in 1966 and we’ve been based in Pavilion Drive since the building opened in 1997.

We purchased the building from the landlord in early 2018 as a sign of our commitment to investment in Northampton. Plans to further develop this Campus-style location are under way to allow for a real collaborative work environment. Based just off the A45 it is easily accessible by both car and bus routes.
