Solutions Architect

Typical working pattern: Part-time, 28 hours per week, covering various shifts between Monday to Sunday

As a Barclays Solutions Architect, you will be working on the Smartpay Gateway team, alongside other architects, business and engineering colleagues and in collaboration with stakeholders from Barclays security, technology, operations and infrastructure teams. You will interact with colleagues at many levels, shaping the technology roadmap, defining milestones, ensuring good governance, producing high-level and low-level designs and guiding technology delivery.

What will you be doing?

  • Designing technology solutions that meet business requirements
  • Working with stakeholders to clarify problems and validate business needs
  • Working with Barclays CTO to help establish the technology strategy and roadmap
  • Evaluating and presenting alternative solution options and high-level estimates
  • Ensuring that solutions adhere to Barclays standards, patterns and technology strategy
  • Supporting architectural governance and work planning processes
  • Optimising the use of infrastructure and technology to control total cost of ownership
  • Acting as the accountable design authority throughout delivery and ensuring adherence to the approved solution design

What We’re Looking For

  • Experience of designing and delivering highly-available, commercially viable solutions in a regulated environment
  • Demonstrable knowledge of architectural best practices, methods and design patterns
  • Good understanding of non-functional requirements, IT capabilities and services including cloud computing, on-prem hosting, identity and access management, virtualization
  • Understanding and experience of security patterns and best practices (e.g. OWASP) and standards (e.g. PCI DSS)

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • Ability to clearly articulate problems, risks, challenges, constraints and the selling points of a solution with great communication, listening, presentation and analytical skills
  • Practical experience with architectural design patterns and concepts: MVC, layered / aggregator / chain patterns, API gateway, event-driven, domain-driven designs
  • Software development experience using Java including JEE and Spring. Good awareness of other programming languages including Python, C, C++, C#, SQL, Javascript
  • Experience working in an Agile environment
