Cross-Asset Algorithmic KDB Developer

As a Barclays Cross-Asset Algorithmic KDB Developer, you will be joining an Algorithmic and Electronic Trading Technology (AETT) team responsible for the development and support of the front office applications and systems used by the macro business globally. Systems supported are a combination of in-house developed and vendor applications, using a mixture of technologies. You will be a part of the AETT team comprised of over 200+ staff based in London, New York, Tokyo, Singapore, Hong Kong, Prague and India.

Hybrid Working

We are currently operating in a hybrid working environment, meaning that many colleagues spend part of their working hours at home and part in the office, depending on the nature of the role they are in. Please discuss the detail of the working pattern options for the role with the hiring manager.

What will you be doing?

  • Delivering cross asset Kdb+ solutions to support Foreign Exchange, rates, credit and Equities businesses as prioritised
  • Integrating and leveraging the latest data science platform being built in the kdb estate
  • Developing robust, high performance, unit tested Kdb+ solutions, both tactical and strategic as required and prioritised
  • Delivering solutions in line with the strategic AETT Kdb architecture, and in a way such that they can be shared across asset classes when required
  • Working closely with senior business users to understand requirements and deliver high quality solutions
  • Providing estimates for tasks, including design, development and testing
  • Communicating with senior stakeholders to understand their requirements and managing their expectations of delivery, at Director and Managing Director level
  • Making stakeholders: Quants, Research, Audit, Compliance and other teams leveraging KDB data related to Algorithmic Trading in the bank aware of the processes for work prioritization

What We’re Looking For

  • Excellent Q/Kdb+ programming skills on Linux
  • Development experience in front office / electronic trading systems
  • Good knowledge of agile and Software Development Life Cycle (DLC) processes
  • Experience with Maven / Java / Git / Team City / Jira / Confluence

Skills That Will Help You In The Role

  • Solid academic record with a numerate degree (2:1 or higher) in e.g. computer science, maths, physics, engineering
  • Full-lifecycle development on at least 1 large commercial system, with ideal candidate focusing on significant development of large distributed Kdb+ systems
