About the job

Job Introduction

Great TV and radio brings people together. The BBC’s news, sport and entertainment programming is woven into millions of people’s lives, here in the UK and around the world. BBC Media Services provides the workflows that prepare, transcode and package that content, and make it available to stream over the internet. We don’t work on the apps the user sees, but without us those apps would have nothing to play.

Role Responsibility

We are looking for an enthusiastic and inquisitive Junior Software Engineer in Test to join one of our Agile squads. This is your chance to develop your testing career with a globally respected media organisation, build your skills in AWS cloud technologies, and help ensure a smooth and reliable streaming experience as users do more and more of their listening and viewing online.

You’ll be working with microservices running in the cloud that chain together to provide AV processing workflows. This presents some interesting test automation challenges, so if you fancy breaking out of the comfort zone with something a little different from the usual Selenium/Cucumber stack, this could be the opportunity for you.

Are you the right candidate?

We do a mix of manual and automated testing, so as well as being a competent coder, you’ll need to be skilled in exploratory testing and able to explain bugs clearly. We are currently renewing and expanding our frameworks so experience in any programming language is relevant.

You don’t need to understand AV streaming technologies — we’ll train you on the job — but we need someone who’s eager to roll up their sleeves and learn about how our ecosystem works under the bonnet.
