The Asset Management and Major ProjectsTeam in Homes and Landlord Services are recruiting to 2 x Construction Project Manager posts.

The Project Managers will lead on projects to ensure we improve standards in council housing and invest in our homes the right way at the right time. This is a fantastic opportunity to join our innovative teams focused on improving standards in council housing with the drive and commitment to deliver real change

Asset Management

The Housing Asset Management Team are responsible in making decisions on the investment and improvements in the city’s council homes – Bristol owns and manages over 27,000 flats and houses in all wards across the city, built in every decade over the previous 100 years.

The investment decisions for our diverse range of homes, within an environment of ever-changing standards, priorities and financial arrangements can be a challenge – the aim is to ensure we invest in the right way at the right time.

Applicants will have:

  • Demonstrable, relevant experience in surveying or a similar construction related environment
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of sound project management principles
  • The ability to effectively supervise contractors, developers, consultants, professional and technical staff
  • The ability to apply strategic innovative and analytical approaches to solving complex and challenging problems
  • Detailed knowledge and understanding of sound project management principles
  • Excellent knowledge of housing policy, in a local and national context
  • An analytical approach to solving complex problems, including analysing complex datasets


The successful applicant will:

  • Lead projects delivering improvements in Asset Management, focussing on condition and structural appraisals, and investment planning
  • Manage project resources, risks, issues plans – and ensure agreed changes are embedded in the business
  • Engage relevant stakeholders, ensuring effective communication throughout
  • Present reports for Members and Management Team



Major Projects Team

The Major Projects Team is responsible for the delivery of a 10 year cyclical maintenance and major refurbishment programme of the Council’s high rise blocks of flats.

This post, reporting to the Major Projects Manager, will oversee the programme of works to refurbish and improve our high rise blocks , engaging with residents and the local estates team, ensuring that the work meets new fire and building safety regulations.

You will manage a team of professional surveyors, and ensure all works are carried out to a high quality and achieve value for money and ensure a positive experience for all residents

You will oversee initial survey appraisals, structural reports and preplanning options analysis and at any one time will typically have 6-8 projects live on site. You will also engage with a framework of contractors, architects, structural engineers / consultants and stakeholders. You will own, develop, plan, monitor and control all aspects of the project end to end, seeking best practice, ideas and innovation and ensuring they are applied.

Key qualities that we are looking for are:

  • Experience in managing major construction projects with a track record of meeting quality, time and budgetary targets
  • Experience of Contract Management and contracts used in the construction industry – i.e JCT and NEC
  • Experience of Project Delivery and Programming
  • Experience and knowledge of the whole process of development, from concept through planning, specification and delivery of a major project
  • Excellent communication skills and a strong commitment to involving all stakeholders in project development
  • Ability to lead a team of technical staff and external consultants
