Trading with Schools (TwS) is seeking applications for a Part Time Accounts Officer to work within a customer focused, motivated team to assist in the delivery of financial services to schools.


TwS is Bristol City Council’s trading arm providing a range of educational and support services to schools in and around Bristol. For further information about the services and training courses provided by TwS, go to www.tradingwithschools.org.uk


The TwS Schools Finance Team is responsible for the delivery of key business functions including, but not limited to:

  • Provision of financial consultancy advice to over 90 schools and educational settings.
  • Maintenance of the schools finance system RM Accounts which includes supplier and customer maintenance, user access and nominal.
  • Processing BACS payments to suppliers based on invoices input by schools
  • Maintaining Debtors Ledger BACS remittances.
  • Reconciling the schools bank account.
  • Monthly VAT returns
  • Managing Absence Insurance Scheme
  • Managing Procurement Card process
  • Production of year end accounts for all Local Authority schools in Bristol.



Key role accountabilities include, but not limited to:

  • Producing the daily BACS payments runs for schools
  • Maintaining the customer and supplier database
  • Maintaining the RM accounts user database
  • Handling supplier queries in relation to payments made
  • Collating VAT returns
  • Absence Insurance
  • Posting information received into the finance system, including Nominal Ledger journals, Debtor Receipts and adhoc Bank transactions.
  • Nominal ledger reconciliation for consolidated suspense accounts
  • Schools finance helpdesk
  • TWS Mailbox

Ideally, you will have experience of using financial systems on a daily basis and have a working knowledge of spreadsheets. You will need a proven ability to deliver first-rate customer service and be a flexible person, who is able to work in a fast-changing environment.

The key competencies required for this role are accuracy, teamwork, excellent customer service and the ability to deliver high quality services to customers.

The role will require at least NVQ Level 2 in Business & Finance or equivalent, or commensurate experience. You will have excellent communication skills and the ability to work under pressure to tight deadlines.
