Applied Research (AR) is a large multi-disciplined ‘professional services’ engineering practice. The team is organised in key customer focused capabilities which each have sub-capability areas comprising single or multiple engineering delivery projects.

The purpose of this role is to be technically proficient in an Applied Research profession and to deliver work packages on a delivery project

Our customers depend on us to bring technical insight and industry best practices to help them progress their mission. You will bring new technologies and suggest improvements to current working practices.

What your responsibilities will be:

You’ll be helping our customers to develop and deploy new technical solutions following industry best practices.You will be managing Linux servers and network infrastructure.

  • Understand customer problems and work on technical solutions
  • Investigate and recommend new toolsets and processes to help develop and deploy our software
  • Develop metrics to monitor and help diagnose live issues
  • Automate time consuming and repetitive processes
  • Share knowledge both within the team and with our Special Interest Groups
  • Influence customer decision making on technical areas
  • Take ownership of planning, developing and delivering project areas

Skills Required:

Technical Skills:

  • Makes technical decisions which influence the success of projects and team objectives
  • Collaborate with customers to understand complex technical problems
  • Design and develop bespoke solutions
  • Investigate, analyse and recommened existing software products to meet our requirements
  • Participate in the code review process
  • Create test suites to verify code correctness
  • Participates in external activities related to own specialism, e.g. attending technical conferences, knowledge sharing

Communication:

  • Explain and present technical areas back to the team & customers as part of knowledge sharing sessions
  • Produce technical documentation

Additional:

  • Be able to quickly upskill on new technologies through a combination of self learning and external courses
  • Member of a professional body appropriate to area of specialism.
  • Security Clearance: A DV level of National Security Vetting will be required for this role. You will have existing clearence or be eligible for security clearence.

  • Due to the sensitive nature of this role you may be required to undergo DV (Developed Vetting) level Security Clearance (https://www.gov.uk/government/publications/united-kingdom-security-vetting-clearance-levels/national-security-vetting-clearance-levels). An allowance of £5k per annum may be payable monthly while you hold this DV and continue to work in a role that requires that level of security clearance. The terms of this allowance will be made available if you are successful in being recruited into this role.
