About the role

We need a technology focussed person to connect customers to the UK’s biggest Wi-Fi network by designing network solutions for our edge sites that are scalable, adaptable, and cost effective. Your role will be to build the next generation of BT Wi-Fi sites by applying existing designs appropriately, defining excellent designs and templates that will in time feed into our automated systems. You will work under the supervision of an expert in designing networks and solutions who will teach you how to design world class networks of this type.

You will work every day on customer equipment – routers, switches and access points, to build world class Wi-Fi networks, as part of a small team. That team includes some really talented people, some of whom are qualified or experienced to CCIE level. The whole team will help you to grow your skills and experience in building great networks.

The work you do will include:

• Building scalable designs to solve our customers’ problems
• Building a very reliable network, that’s available 24 x 7 x 365
• Creating and managing configuration templates
• Contribute to the automation of designs & configuration to enable us to develop automated processes and tools for improving accuracy and speed up delivery of BT Wi-Fi site build.

Responsibilities

• We work as a team to deliver all the components of our customers’ networks with everyone playing a part, this role will design components of the customers’ network.
• Proactively engage with our development team to define requirements and make suggestions for how we can build and extend the automation of our design and configuration processes.
• Working as part of an agile team to break your work down into manageable chunks and check how everyone’s work contributes to the end result
• Working with the sales teams as their technical expert when they meet our customers

Skills & Experience

This is a role for someone who is passionate about getting hands on with technology and designing networks, and has a burning desire for automation and the benefits it brings, so we’re looking for someone who has the following skills:

• The ability to learn what a customer needs and then design the right components for their network, with automation in mind.
• You will need some experience of IP based networks and knowing how to keep them working properly.
• It isn’t essential, but ideally, you’ll have experience of designing IP networks using routers, and switches.
• You will need to know how to keep your knowledge up to date, so that when opportunities to learn or be trained come up you can keep your network and Wi-Fi skills cutting edge.
• You will also need to be someone who can work in an agile way so that they spot opportunities to improve our delivery and work as a team.
