About The Role

IPTV 2nd line Operations is the technical resolution team within BT Technology for all in-life BT TV and Sport Consumer Products.

Our purpose is to use the power of communication to make a better world for each other, our customers, society and our communities.

  • To ensure the continued availability of BTs IPTV services to all relevant consumption devices.
  • To provide entertainment and information through the power of BTs TV service.
  • To ensure the complex backend systems and platforms that provide IPTV services are seamless to our internal and external customers.

The role is a vital part of the operation and is accountable for the investigation, management, escalation, resolution and communication of all incidents impacting BT TV and Sports products. These functions directly impact the operation’s performance and the experience the customer receives from our products. We are recruiting a Cloud Software Engineer Specialist to work alongside the introduction and analysis manager to drive and shape operational requirements across the TV and Broadband stack. The role holder will evaluate service risk due to changes and incidents triggering suitable mitigation and process to protect customer service. The role offers a hybrid working model wherein you can work from our BT Tower office for 3days and 2days wherever you like.

You’ll Have The Following Responsibilities

  • Spear-head others in diagnosing complex multi-site/multi-component incidents, likely significant service impact/risk and pan-BT using in-depth expertise and end-to-end understanding.
  • Technical cloud operations lead for the delivery of complex projects and programmes.
  • Articulating business requirements and the commercial necessity to technical teams
  • Ongoing management of senior stakeholder relationships e.g. Vendors, senior management team.
  • Lead Technical interface between supplier and customer.
  • Contribute to the shaping, definition and evolution of strategy, driving future roadmaps for the relevant products and ensuring they are operable to high availability.
  • Making a judgement on the impact of an incident, mitigating and resolving with support from 3rd parties and vendors.
  • Leading on a technical bridge and driving service restoration, and protecting service
  • Communicating the current status with the senior stakeholders from across the business and the customer-facing help desk
  • On a call-out rota
  • Shaping and driving the agreed 2nd line strategy for major TV events and then implementing that strategy on the night of an event
  • Act as a manager/mentor to the technical community and help develop them.
  • Continually review how we work and look for ways to improve operations to support our customers.

You’ll Have The Following Essential Skills And Experience

  • Minimum of five years experience in cloud-based technologies with a preference for AWS and Azure.
  • In-depth appreciation of the operation and deployment of microservices
  • Knowledge of broadcast and IPTV equipment, networks and designs
  • Operational experience with CloudFront and CloudWatch
  • Operational experience with Cloud computing such as EC2, cloud-based security and networking architectures.
  • Ideally will be certified as an AWS Systems Architect and/or an AWS Sys Ops administrator.
  • Good appreciation of CDNs
  • Knowledgeable of mobile apps and the use of HTTP services

The Following Skills And Experience Are Nice To Have

  • Previous operational experience with S3 storage solutions.
  • Operational experience with RDS and Dynamo database architectures
  • Operational experience with Lambda environments
  • The ability to work well under pressure
  • The ability to communicate and present problems clearly and concisely at a very senior level
  • The ability to interrogate symptoms and data during incidents and post-incident investigations.
