About This Role

The Microsoft Platform Support Specialist is a technical expert who owns the support of our Microsoft platforms. The platforms are some of the largest that Microsoft supports in the UK and are critical to our business, allowing our employees to collaborate, spin up team web sites and create brilliant employee experience.

An essential part of the role is to work closely with the Modern Workplace Delivery Team, Principal Architect and the Third Line Support Technical Team Manager. Ensuring we have a robust support wrap, and acceptance into service for all new products and services. Continual Service Improvement is also paramount.

What You’ll Be Doing

  • Support: Support lead responsibility for operational in-life support of our Microsoft platforms and services, ensuring operational procedures are maintained and followed as appropriate. Drive reduction of service outages and IT system incidents through strategy and design, reducing costs caused by service issues.
  • Improve: Use performance monitoring, root cause analysis, post implementation reviews and knowledge of best practice to recommend improvements for the Infrastructure environment in line with Technology and Dynamic IT drive for service excellence. Collaborate with Modern Workplace, Service Desk and Delivery/Operational leads to continually improve the quality of service monitoring & earlier detection of issues.
  • Deliver: Leading and contributing to large scale delivery projects to maintain, enhance and transform the Microsoft platforms.
  • Learn: Subject Matter Expert for Microsoft, covering focus area and beyond, optimising and maintaining the service platforms.
  • Share: Champion knowledge sharing, with “give-back” to colleagues and to the BT wide professional community. Collaborate with Modern Workplace, Service Desk and Delivery/Operational leads to produce documentation and presentations that empower us as a team.

What Skills You Will Need

Subject Matter Expert in at least 2-3 of the following areas…

  • Microsoft Exchange
  • Sharepoint
  • SQL Server
  • Powershell
  • Microsoft Office 365 Management
  • Microsoft Azure Cloud Services
  • Windows Server 2012 and above
  • Management Operations of large estates
  • Virtualisation (Hyper-V/VMWare)
  • ITIL
