About This Job Role

This job matters as it has a key focus on delivering commercial technical delivery outcomes whilst creating a culture of continuous development that nurtures a world class Technical Delivery Organisation. It is key to delivering positive, successful customer experience and value. It is accountable from the business scoping through to enablement of benefits realisation which along with TLR / TLC plan with Finance, year on year efficiency plans and overall business unit organisational health.

The delivery of complex commercial contracts and contract-initiated changes on the UK Specialist platforms.  These are the contract and Sector specific bespoke platforms that support the largest and most complex UK contracts including ESN.

Emergency Service Network (ESN) provides critical national infrastructure. ESN will transmit fast, safe, and secure voice, video, and data across the 4G network and give first responders immediate access to life-saving data, images and information in live situations and emergencies on the frontline.

Responsible and accountable for the end-to-end delivery of the latest technology to support the ESN frontline emergency users, creating a single platform for sharing data, imagery and enable faster adoption of successful mobile applications

Main Responsibilities

  • Manages a team to deliver complex and large-scale technology development and solutions that provide business value and meet customer requirements, encouraging team’s use of innovative approaches and tools to solve high impact, complex problems.
  • Applies technical expertise to provide direction and make commercial decisions focused on wider converged technology lifecycle, setting roadmaps, and defining and driving towards a desired future state & ensuring BT can reliably trade.
  • Drives team’s understanding of customer and user centric technical process design, driving and implementing improvements to enhance the customer and user experience.
  • Making authoritative recommendations that balance delivery, strategic direction, and operational performance.
  • Accountable for TLR / TLC plan with Finance, year on year efficiency plans and overall business unit organisational health/high engaging teams.

Main Skills/experience Required

  • Able to establish and maintain internal and external stakeholder relationships and facilitates mutually beneficial negotiations to develop solutions, ensuring they meet current and emerging business and technical needs.
  • Able to manage long term changes and adapting the unit in line with the business. Be able to transform delivery to improve and reduce cost and b confident in managing changes to major products or releases.
  • Must be able to proactively solve business problems that deal with uncertainty e.g., demand profile planning including location, skill, and resource. Also, some problems will be multi-platform wide, impacting multiple services or cross-portfolio solutions.
  • Experience in leading teams encompassing the full employee lifecycle. Resource & skills identification, succession planning and matrix managing for multiple disciplines including having experience in TLR/TLC planning.
  • Experience in evaluation of the obvious and subtle commercial risks/issues/challenges especially in relation to a programme/project. Experience in determining the appropriate commercial solutions.
  • Problem solving to achieve business unit plans, providing expertise and insight to support bold decisions.
