We have an exciting opportunity for a Head of Digital Communications who can make the best use of the digital channels and platforms we have at our disposal. You will lead our high performing and busy Digital Communications team with the aim of growing our digital audiences and improving our content. You will have one team dedicated to designing and producing high quality digital and social media plans and content, and another creating and delivering effective low/no cost and paid-for digital campaigns.

Job Description

You willprovide strategic advice to the team, and colleagues (particularly senior stakeholders) across the CMA, on how to effectively communicate their work digitally and create the best quality content. You will work with the Head of Campaigns to identify projects that would benefit from low/no cost support and help run paid-for B2C and B2B marketing campaigns.

You will also lead the growth of the CMA’s digital presence, with a particular emphasis on evolving social media channels and content, carefully curating what is posted, as well as running regular audits to inform future plans and content.

Person specification

  • Lead and motivate two high-performing teams to ensure the delivery of high impact digital communications work. With one team dedicated to designing & producing high quality digital and social media plans & content, and the other to creating and delivering effective low/no cost and paid-for digital campaigns.
  • Provide strategic advice to the team, and colleagues (particularly senior stakeholders) across the CMA, on how to effectively communicate their work digitally and create the best quality content.
  • Act as the organisation’s lead on campaigns, evaluating their content, championing their development with stakeholders, working with relevant agencies and supporting the team to deliver high quality outputs.
  • Work with the Head of Campaigns to identify projects that would benefit from low/no cost support and help run paid-for B2C and B2B marketing campaigns, providing hands-on support during busy periods when it would aid delivery.
  • Lead the growth of the CMA’s digital presence, with a particular emphasis on evolving its social media channels and content, carefully curating what is posted and when, as well as running regular audits to inform future plans and content.
  • Act as the organisation’s lead on content and service design standards, supporting the team to deliver high-quality digital content to GOV.UK.
  • Ensure that the processes and procedures in place to manage a busy schedule of day-to-day publishing work are effective and meet the needs of the team and its customers.
  • Work collaboratively with teams across the CMA, and external stakeholders, to ensure users are at the heart of our digital work, and that the CMA uses insight to understand it’s audiences.
  • Lead on brand guardianship, ensuring the amplification of the CMA’s brand and identity through digital channels, and ensuring any sub brands created sit comfortably with that.
  • Ensure our work remains within budget and compliant with relevant spend controls.

If you’re already a civil servant being appointed on level transfer, you’ll retain your existing terms, including annual leave. If you are being promoted you’ll receive either a 10% pay increase or the new grade minimum, whichever is the greater. Applicants new to the civil service can be considered for appointment at a salary higher than the starting point indicated above, but not more than the advertised mid-point, depending on skills, knowledge, experience and qualifications.

As part of the application process you will be asked to complete a CV, personal statement and an online application form. Further details about application requirements are listed on the application form.

The selection process will comprise of the sift (CV & application review) and an interview. Arrangements for the interview will be enclosed in the invitation. Interviews will be either conducted either virtually, by Microsoft Teams, or in-person at a CMA office.

Role

Please note that it is essential that your personal statement is aligned to provide evidence that you have the knowledge and experience for each of the following selection criteria (as included on the role profile) in your application

  • Significant experience of leading and motivating staff to deliver high impact and creative digital communications work
  • Experience creating, developing, implementing and evaluating paid and/or unpaid multi-channel campaigns
  • Significant experience in delivering high quality digital and social media content across a range of channels
  • Demonstrable experience of successfully growing and developing social media channels and evolving an organisation’s digital presence
  • Signficant experience of working effectively and collaboratively with colleagues and advising senior stakeholders

The sift will take place week commencing 25 October 2023.

If your application is successful you will be invited to attend an interview. You will be notified via email to log-in to your Civil Service Account and book your interview slot. You will be sent an email with full details of your arrangements for interview.

Interviews will be held week commencing 7 November 2023 .

The first part of the interview will comprise of a presentation, details of which will be forwarded in advance of the interview. The second part of the interview will be a 45 minute -1 hour panel interview where you will be asked questions based on the Behaviours and Experience outlined in the role profile.
