Cornwall Council’s waste team provides high profile collection, cleansing and disposal services to the residents and visitors of Cornwall. The services that the team provide are delivered through large contracts, are used by all residents and visitors, and are delivered to a consistently high standard.

We are embarking on a series of significant changes to the services that are provided to deliver the objectives of our resources and waste strategy and climate change commitments, and have several roles available for the right candidates.

The IWM Contract Support Officer will be part of a small team which manages the Integrated Waste Management (IWM) Contract. The contract is a high value PFI contract and delivers a range of services, including the provision of Household Waste and Recycling Centres, Material Recycling Facilities, Refuse Transfer Stations, closed landfill sites and a 240,000tpa Energy from Waste facility.

Reporting to the Assistant IWM Contract Team Leader, this role will support the management of Cornwall’s municipal waste treatment and disposal services by monitoring, reviewing and improving processes, systems and practices to ensure the IWM Team performs successfully and optimises efficiencies. The role will have a focus on the development and maintenance of a contract management manual, and the role holder will also be responsible for responding to customer enquiries.

Working within the waste management team (within the Regulatory Services Service), the role holder will actively assist in the delivery of the outcomes of the Environment Growth Strategy and contribute to the development of a culture that delivers continuous improvement and places the needs of individuals, stakeholders and communities at the heart of everything that the Council does.

Educated to an A-level standard or equivalent, the successful applicant should be able to demonstrate experience in contract administration, including data analysis. Customer liaison experience is important, and the right candidate will also be able to display the ability to handle multiple tasks simultaneously.

The post holder will be expected to represent the service and the council to external partners and stakeholders and develop collaborative relationships which can bring about a positive change in the way which we deliver services and wider benefits to local communities.
