Cornwall Council are seeking an enthusiastic, innovative and experienced Principal Network Engineer to join Cornwall Council’s Information Services, Infrastructure & Operations, Network Team.

Information services support a large, diverse enterprise-wide IT infrastructure, delivering services to 8,000 users working in over 200 locations, as well as providing a variety of systems and applications for use by the general public.

The Network Team is a team of 10 highly skilled and experienced infrastructure engineers who perform a key role in the development and support of a wide range of network technologies, underpinning IT services to all areas of the Council.

As a Principal Network Engineer, you will have extensive experience in one or more of the following technology areas:

  • LAN/WAN Switching and Routing infrastructure
  • Next Generation Firewalls
  • VoIP Telephony Services
  • Web Content filtering
  • Public Cloud network configuration
  • Application Delivery Control

You will be an accomplished technical leader and subject matter expert, taking a principal leading role in the development and ongoing lifecycle management of multiple network services, with a focus on technological and service/operational efficiency, automation and compliance. You will provide mentoring and leadership to Senior and Lead Engineers within the Network Team, working closely with the Network Product and Delivery Managers to develop and prioritise the team Roadmap/backlog and work with other peer product and operational teams to support external deliveries that utilise network services.

Interfacing with the team product manager and other technical engineers, you will have responsibility to take team service requirements, lead research and propose designs or technical solutions to meet network service needs. You will also be a key contributor to the departments wider technical design group, where you can expect to be routinely reviewing designs from Solution Architects and other Principal Engineers, with a view to being able to sign off those designs, in line with established industry best practices and defined organisational delivery principles.

Our evolving ways of working means that the role will require you to work remotely from home, but also be based at one of our main Cornwall Council offices.
