We are looking for a Solution Architecture Lead who can champion best practice, lead Ways of Working and strategically support the evolution of our technology landscape as we look to drive efficiencies and consistency across North and South Europe. You will need to have a collaborative style, but be able to implement effective governance and processes ensuring alignment to standards and high quality cost effective, compliant solutions.

Your role

  • Responsible for defining and leading best practice Solution Architecture across NSE covering all elements of the technology stack from infrastructure, cloud, network, data, application, security, and privacy. Ensuring effective processes and governance are in place.
  • Leading the Solution Architecture community of practice across NSE, driving consistent ways of working and alignment to our global target operating model for both colleagues and suppliers. Managing blockers and escalations for any solution architects.
  • Working closely with Enterprise Architecture you will ensure designs are aligned to strategy, target architecture and standards, providing architecture input to technical and delivery governance boards.
  • Support the strategic technology direction including identifying and assessing technologies to ensure they are approved for use. Prioritising components (platforms, microservices, code designs etc ) for reuse across solutions.
  • You will be capable of defining and implementing secure systems, multiple complex interfaces (on premise and SaaS solutions) and secure data structures in both legacy and leading edge technologies.
  • You will be responsible for prioritising and matching skills to the pipeline of work in a rapidly changing environment. Planning for recruitment and skills development to ensure the function evolves with the pace of technology and creating Business Cases as required.
  • You will have the ability to talk to different stakeholders (from SMEs, IT leadership and Business Partners), being able to demonstrate the value of proposed designs and rationale for decisions made.
  • Line Management responsibility for Solution Architects within your Geo and input to the line management and recruitment of architects across North, South Europe.

Location: You will be based at one of our offices, however, we will support you to consider the work you need to get done and when and where you can best do this – in the office or at home. Occasional travel for collaboration may be required.

Work pattern: This is a permanent opportunity and is a full time position, 7 hours a day. Our team members work a variety of agile working patterns. Tell us what arrangement works for you and we’ll try to accommodate.

Your professional experience

Essential:

  • Experience of managing a team. Able to coach team members to perform to their best abilities; resource planning and forecasting skills.
  • Experience of implementing process and governance to ensure reuse, best practice and compliance.
  • Extensive knowledge of operating systems, system security, hardware, applications and database management (predominately Microsoft stack, LAMP and Open Source would be beneficial)
  • Demonstrable experience in Technology Solution Architecture and design –from a target architecture, application, and security architecture perspective; ensuring solutions meet functional, non-functional, security and privacy requirements
  • Design & implementation of end-to-end data and application architectures; conceptual, logical and physical modelling
  • Able to work across a wide range of Front end and back-end technologies and platforms (e.g. SAP, .NET, C#, SQL Server, Service Now, Salesforce, M365, Azure, AWS, Apache)
  • Demonstrated ability to adapt to new technologies, learn quickly and pass on this knowledge to other team members. Champion for innovation and improvements.
  • Working knowledge of DevOps tools, automation and methodologies used to deploy solutions within a cloud platform
  • Understanding of test frameworks for automated testing/compliance
  • Working knowledge of software development tools and methodologies (Continuous integration, ADO etc.), microservices and container-based systems (Docker, Kubernetes, Mesos)
  • Experience in Agile and Waterfall delivery methods in a large-scale Programme Delivery environment.
  • AWS and/or Azure Certified
  • TOGAF accreditation or BCS Chartered Professional or Fellow in Solution Development & Architecture or equivalent
  • You may also be required to ensure technical reviews, guidance and troubleshooting assistance is provided from time to time into technical teams.
  • Excellent interpersonal manner, communication skills & customer focused
  • Ability to translate key complex technical issues into common business language

Desirable

  • Familiarity with industry compliance and security standards (ISO27001, PCI-DSS, etc.)
  • Cyber security related certifications/designations, such as: Certified Information Systems Security Professional (CISSP)
  • Experience of working at a European or Global Level.
