Job Description:

The Electoral Commission is the independent body which oversees elections and regulates political finance in the UK. It works to promote public confidence in the democratic process and to ensure its integrity.

Job Responsibilities:

  • You will oversee the work of a busy and engaged team, developing, managing and delivering the Commission’s response to major new elections legislation and policy changes across the UK.
  • We are looking for a proactive and creative policy professional to lead the Electoral Commission’s response to an exciting range of policy challenges.
  • This is a vital role within the Commission’s wider policy team.
  • Your team’s work could include developing innovative thinking about the regulatory challenges of new campaign techniques, reporting on the impact of significant changes to elections such as the new imprints requirement for digital election campaign material, and building links and collaborating with other regulators.

  • You will also work closely with the Commission’s external communications and devolved office teams, to ensure the UK’s governments and elected representatives understand the Commission’s recommendations for strengthening our democracy.
  • You will be able to quickly build strong relationships and navigate complex stakeholder networks, and will work to ensure a wide range of stakeholders are engaged and involved in informing the Commission’s policy responses.
  • You will work closely with the Head of Policy and the wider policy team to provide expert policy advice and insight to senior colleagues on the executive team and board.
  • You will oversee the development of your team and ensure they continue to deliver high-quality policy analysis and advice.
  • You will bring creativity and rigour to our policy development and analysis work.

Qualification & Experience:

  • You will have an excellent understanding of policy development techniques and legislation processes, strong research, analysis and communication skills, and experience leading a high-performing team.
