Job Responsibilities:

  • To take the lead to identify the impact of planned possessions and events upon the Control
  • Attend industry, group and business meetings and steering groups regarding the development of the operational service delivery and industry change
  • Ensure processes and procedures remain up to date and any changes are embedded
  • Align to the customer service strategy to meet the customer expectations through good planning, engaging with stakeholders on operations delivery
  • Effectively deploy and manage Control room processes to identify compliance, training & development needs and to drive the cultural change of a standardised approach to service delivery in the Control room
  • Provide leadership and direct line management to the team of Duty Service Delivery Managers and ensure they are delivering great customer experience, efficient and robust service through the identification of risks and implementation of tactical plans
  • Manage the successful delivery of the day-to-day train service through the tactical management of the Control department, working with the relevant functional delivery managers and Network Rail to ensure the service is safe, robust, and punctual.
  • To lead the operations control response to extraordinary events (industrial action, emergency timetables and extreme weather) by working with other functional managers to develop and deliver the best plans
  • To lead the Control’s planning activities for engineering work and special events and to communicate such plans to Controllers.
  • Ensure incident management, contingency and recovery plans are fit for purpose, through incident reviews and incorporating business and industry best practice
  • Ensure the development of the appropriate operational, safety, customer experience and commercial policies and procedures affecting the Control teams are optimal and fit for purpose

Qualification & Experience:

  • Extensive knowledge of the EMR and surrounding route geography.
  • Excellent financial, numerical, literacy, presentation and IT skills.
  • Proven successful experience of delivering objectives and working to tight timescales.
  • Analytical and numerate skills
  • Excellent leadership and managerial skills that are primarily derived from substantial experience within an operating / railway environment
  • Educated to degree level and/or equivalent experience
  • Extensive experience of railway operations and customer service.
  • Demonstrated experience of negotiating and influencing
