Job Responsibilities:

  • Prepare and submit VAT returns in compliance with local legislation, in conjunction with the Tax Department.
  • Assist in preparation of the audit at all stages (debriefing, planning, half year, interim and year end) including provision of files and working papers for the Group and entity audits.
  • Support the Senior Group Financial Accountant to prepare the disclosure notes for the statutory accounts, and ad hoc work as required.
  • Support the Financial Planning & Analysis Teams to submit the annual budget into SNCF’s reporting tool, BO Finance.
  • Prepare and submit the monthly consolidated accounts to Eurostar’s parent company SNCF within their consolidation tool, BO Finance.
  • Manage the SNCF intercompany reconciliation process ensuring material mismatches are resolved on a quarterly basis,
  • Prepare the half yearly Off-Balance Sheet Commitment (OBSC) reporting to SNCF.
  • Prepare and input of month end journals. The journals cover, but are not limited to, financing, hedging, IFRS16, provisions, VAT, and tax, as well as intercompany recharges and the intercompany eliminations.
  • Carry out regular intercompany invoicing in accordance with established routines and VAT and tax requirements.
  • Produce timely monthly balance sheet reconciliations for selected balance sheet accounts. All balance sheet recs are managed within the Blackline Reconciliation System.
  • Prepare and submit ONS surveys.
  • Support in managing the Blackline reporting tool and maintaining and updating the Chart of Accounts in Oracle and the reporting tool Adaptive Insights.
  • Manage the raising and receipting of purchase orders in respect of treasury, audit, and accounting suppliers.
  • Support projects to combine the operations of Eurostar and Thalys (Project Green Speed).

Job Requirements:

  • Experience of Oracle, SAP Business Objects and Adaptive Insights
  • French language skills
  • Experience of working in the travel sector
  • Knowledge of the statutory requirements in France and Belgium.
  • Strong technical accounting skills (IFRS)

  • Strong “can do” attitude with strong drive and enthusiasm to tackle ever changing workload
  • To have a curious mindset with ability to identify issues and proactively drive process improvement
  • To be highly numerate and logical thinker with problem-solving attitude and attention to detail
  • To be calm, resilient and organised approach to managing priorities and escalating issues
  • To be a qualified or final stage part qualified accountant (ACCA, CIMA, ACA)
  • A good understanding of financial processes, controls, and general ledger accounting
  • Audit background preferable or experience working confidently with the Big 4 auditors
  • Experience user of accounting systems including provision of documentation
  • To be hands-on and willing to get into the detail where required without getting lost in complexity
  • Excellent people skills to help communicate, collaborate and influence others
  • The ability to work autonomously, taking responsibility for tasks and meeting deadlines
  • To be comfortable dealing with senior management in a professional, knowledgeable manner
