As East of England ‘Office Manager – Finance’, you will be part of the District Finance and Support Services team. Reporting to the Finance Manager and working alongside the ‘Office Manager – People’, you will lead a small team who process the Financial transactions for the forest district of over 170 employees. You will also work closely with the wider Forestry England Finance team, who lead Nationally on Financial and Management Accounting, Financial Control, and Finance Policy and Procedures.

Your role within our district team will be to lead, advise and support on Financial transaction processing, to include: Accounts Payable, Accounts Receivable, General Ledger and Cash Account. You will carry out authorisations and audits as required and ensure adherence to financial policy and procedure. You will be responsible for other key financial work areas to include; District Cash Handling Strategy, Cash Collection contract and Financial Controls. And you will be involved with wider work areas to include; Procurement, Business Planning and Budget Management.

You will lead, support and motivate your team to consistently deliver work to the high standards required. You will foster teamwork and develop and upskill members of the team, and you will work closely with the ‘Office Manager – People’, to encourage a level of cross-pollination between the team members to ensure adequate cover across the wider Support Services work areas.

Background

East England Forest District employs over 170 staff and covers an area of 35,000 ha from North Norfolk to Brighton. The district’s woodlands are varied and range from the conifer plantations of Thetford Forest to the Ancient woodlands of the South East and the community woodlands of Thames Chase on the outskirts of London. The woodlands are important for timber production and conservation, with a substantial proportion of the landholding designated a Site of Special Scientific Interest (SSSI) and offer opportunities for a wide range of recreation from the informal use of open access woodland to the adventurous play and trails at Forest Centres at Bedgebury, Wendover and High Lodge.

The role may involve occasional travel within the district, potentially with overnight stays to attend meetings. The post is part time, working 22.5 hours a week. New entrants are expected to join on the minimum of the pay band.
