About the job

Purpose of the Job

As the beat manager you will manage the Chiddingfold Beat and its team effectively, efficiently and safely. You will deliver economic, social and environmental work programmes arising from Forest District Plans to meet Business Plan targets.

With excellent people skills, you will manage and motivate your team and will ensure they have the correct tools and resources available to do their jobs.

Creating clear plans and setting priorities are key to this role. You will be planning, organising and supervising forest operations by staff and contractors and will need a positive and focused attitude to achieve outcomes and deal with setbacks.

• Staff management and support.
• Beat planning and operational management.
• Communication and external liaison stakeholders and third parties.
• Resource Management.
• Manage Health and safety of staff/contractors and protect the environment.
• Participate in the South Downs Duty Officer Roster.
• Vehicles, Machinery and Equipment (VME) liaison with the local Mechanical Engineering Services team.

This post will require occasional out of hours and weekend working.
