We plan to spend £16bn over the next ten years, funding new discoveries in life, health and wellbeing, and taking on three global health challenges: mental health, infectious disease and climate.

These challenges need the bold research our funding supports, but they won’t be solved by science alone. we are looking for a Lead Adviser to provide support across the Wellcome Research Programmes team (including to the Director of Research Programmes) to ensure Research Programmes operates as an integrated team.

This role is part of the Translation and Portfolio Integration / Research Programmes team.

In this role you will

  • Work with Director of Research Programmes and Research Programmes Senior Leadership team by taking a high-level overview of priorities, routing work, and supporting or leading projects.
  • Write (or support the writing of) documents for governance meetings, position papers and emerging topics as well as reviewing board/executive papers.
  • Coordinate ad hoc projects and working groups on emerging priorities, including deep dives and consultation/socialisation of concepts across Wellcome leadership.
  • Lead a team which delivers diverse workstreams and be responsible for programme management, budgeting and forecasting.
  • Work openly and collaboratively with others to maximise the work of across Research Programmes and the wider organisation and with key partners.

To be successful in this role you will have

  • Ability to lead and influence others in a constructive manner and to build and sustain collaborative/productive relationships.
  • Ability to employ diverse approaches to effectively communicate complex information to individuals and groups from a range of different background and different seniority levels.
  • Ability to multi-task and manage a fluctuating workload and competing priorities.
  • Ability to synthesise diverse technical information from multiple sources
  • Ability to build complex cross-group/department plans, drive, track and report execution progress
  • An open-minded, dynamic and inclusive nature, keen to involve others whilst remaining diplomatic and sensitive to potential biases.

Salary: £80,740 per annum
