What Works For Children’s Social Care

The Evidence Quarter (EQ) is a home for evidence based organisations. It brings together a number of evidence and research charities and organisations at Albany House, Westminster. What Works for Children’s Social Care (WWCSC) is the head tenant of the Evidence Quarter and is looking to recruit a Data Protection Advisor for this group of organisations. The office (EQ) will bring together leading evidence institutions to collaborate, share office space and back-office functions.

The role

This is a part time role and the individual will develop knowledge, awareness and insights into how to deliver data protection practices into complex research scenarios. The post holder will work with the Data Protection Officer on data protection measures and processes to develop their understanding and confidence including how to navigate this sector as a data protection professional.

Working with the DPO, you’ll develop your familiarity with the sector, systems and processes with the aim of making you confident with end-to-end data protection management procedures for research organisations and research projects. The role will become more diverse and you will become a key member of the organisations with which you interact.

Main Responsibilities

  • Deliver internal training to employees from all the EQ organisations.
  • Data Protection lifecycle management for research projects in the Evidence Quarter
  • Interpret relevant information from team meetings, project kick-off meetings (internal and external) and research presentations into actions for the Data Protection Team
  • To inform and advise employees about the obligations to comply with the GDPR and other data protection laws
  • Undertake data protection strategy projects as set by the Data Protection Officer
  • Write policies, guidelines, and procedural documentation that are easy to understand
  • Run data protection risk review meetings and uncover information that may not be forthcoming
  • Manage your time alongside the Data Protection Officer for a joined-up team-based approach using applications including Monday.com, Salesforce, Google Workspace, Microsoft Applications, Zoom.
  • Write Data Protection Impact Assessments, Data Sharing Agreements, Data Protection Notices, Data Processing Agreements, Non-Disclosure Agreements, Joint Controller Arrangements, Breach Reports, Data Protection Registers, External Notification Letters and documents, Data Subjects Rights Request Letters and responses, Records of Processing Activities and a variety of clauses in other organisational specific documentation
  • Have the confidence and awareness of when to assert your authority using factually based arguments within complex data processing scenarios being discussed with senior stakeholders
  • Remain in touch and up to date with data protection laws and developments especially with focus on data protection requirements for research
  • Manage the workloads of at least six organisations which is likely to expand over time

Person specification

  • Data protection related qualification, or working towards, such as CIPP/E, CIPT, CIPM, GDPR P or equivalent
  • Demonstrable desire and ability to produce great results
  • An understanding of why data protection is an important and needed activity and legislation around the world
  • Good attention to detail with strong writing and proofreading skills
  • Ability to work in a small team and independently as required
  • Ability to handle confidential information
  • Basic understanding of IT security

Initial Terms and Conditions of Appointment

Hours: part time three days (22.5 hours) a week

Term: Twelve-month term (with potential for extension)

Other: Role reports to the Data Protection Officer

Salary: £40,000 (FT) pro-rata for part time
