The challenge

Often in the public eye, the Office for Nuclear Regulation (ONR) is an evolving public corporation. Essentially, we’re responsible for shaping and delivering the regulation of nuclear safety and security across the UK. It’s a critical task, and our HR team provides the entire organisation with expert support. As an HR People Services Manager, you’ll have a fantastic opportunity to build your skills in a fast-paced world.

The role

Senior leaders, Inspection teams, vital corporate functions – People Services supports them all. You’ll be at the heart of this work, answering queries, advising on policy and shedding light on everything from benefits to absence management. When issues arise, you’ll deal with them promptly. You’ll also analyse HR data, providing crucial management information for a wide range of stakeholders.

GDPR is another key area, and you’ll be our champion, making sure HR is fully compliant. But it’s through more strategic projects that you’ll really stretch your talents. You’ll provide support for casework and all manner of areas and initiatives. Expect responsibility, wide-ranging insight and the chance to develop skills from communication to leadership.

The person

At this level, you’ll ideally need CIPD membership (level 3 or above). It’s important you can grasp organisational strategy and how HR’s priorities fit in. You should also be comfortable dealing with casework, Microsoft Excel (including formulae to manipulate data) and stakeholders at all levels. A good communicator, you can articulate key messages, collaborate with people across the organisation and have a breadth of experience across the HR profession.

While HR experience in another public sector role would be ideal, it’s your attitude that counts. We’re looking for enthusiasm, good organisation, team focus and the potential for strategic thinking.

Like all our roles, this one offers flexible, hybrid working. However, you will need to visit the office regularly.

The rewards

We offer competitive salaries at the ONR, with this role attracting a salary of £33,229 – £38,969 (plus a London Weighting allowance of £4,052). Furthermore, you’ll be eligible for a substantial Civil Service Pension scheme (including ill-health retirement and lump sum family benefits). Plus, you’ll receive a generous holiday entitlement.
