We are looking to welcome a Handyperson / Electrical Assistant with extensive experience in carrying out electrical work to join our amazing Communication & Interior Design team based in Southampton.

In the IKEA world, we call this role a Visual Merchandiser Team Assistant.

WHAT WE OFFER
• This is a benchmarked, salaried role.
• Full-time, permanent contract working 39 hours a week and 5 days out of 7.
• Standard working hours will be between Monday to Friday, starting from 07:00am in the morning.
• Ad hoc weekend work when required, though this will not be regular occurrence, and night work (4 times a year) is required to meet business needs.

WHAT YOU’LL NEED TO HAVE
We are looking for someone who can work to inspire and surprise visitors by presenting and communicating the IKEA home furnishing offer with strong visual impressions. You possess a strong sense of passion and pride in quality work and home furnishings, and are skilled at carrying out tasks such as electrical work, basic wiring and tiling, painting, and assembly and installations.

You will have previous maintenance/handyperson experience gained in a commercial business, particularly around electrical work, as well as a relevant Electrical Qualification (City & Guilds Level 3) (Eighteenth Edition).

Due to Health and Safety regulations, you must be 18 years or over for this role.

WHAT YOU’LL BE DOING DAY TO DAY
• Working in a fast paced busy environment completing tasks that involve manual handling and working at heights.
• Supporting the implementation of commercial changes in the retail unit(s) for practical works, including painting, electrical work, basic wiring and organising, maintaining and assembly/disassembly of shop fixtures where required.
• Maintaining a ‘Store In Shape as New’ approach, which includes proactive planning for range changes.
• Maintaining an up-to-date knowledge around compliance requirements for basic electrical works.
• Keep visitors in mind when working on the shop floor by minimising disruption and remain aware at all times of the importance of safety and the visual impact for visitors.
• Respect routines and responsibilities, work together with the Communications and Interior Design team and other functions, act quickly to exploit commercial opportunities and understand the impact of actions on the financial results.
• Secure high-quality, simplicity and cost-consciousness in the execution of work by using best practices.
• Actively contribute to action plans with initiatives that will grow the business and support long term profitability and execute the agreed plans in close co-operation with other functions.
