Job Description:

The Principal Accountant will be a key member of the Council’s technical finance team, supporting the Finance Manager in key financial control tasks, and helping to develop other colleagues within the function.

Job Responsibilities:

• Supporting maintenance of the fixed asset register and capital accounting
• Review of VAT returns and supporting the organisation with VAT queries
• Continuous improvement and development of financial control processes
• Significant role in completion and production of the statutory Statement of Accounts (including Collection Fund, HRA and Group Accounts)
• Leading the external audit and being the key point of contact
• Expert Excel skills and experience with financial systems to interrogate data

Job Requirements:

• Local government experience or other public sector experience desirable.

• The post holder must be a CCAB/CIMA qualified accountant and will be expected to maintain up to date technical knowledge and develop processes and procedures to ensure compliance with new requirements and legislation and relevant Codes of Practice.

Qualification & Experience:

• You will have the ability to analyse complex financial information and be able to explain this to a range of stakeholders.
• Exam qualified candidates working towards full qualification with relevant experience will be considered.
